Which Coil? X-12, 15" WOT or SE Pro...

Hi All. I have the chance to pick up a SE (not pro) at a pretty good price and I am looking for a good beach killer setup. I have heard good things about the X-12, WOT and SE Pro coils. Will be using it in SoCal black sand type beaches. I am sure a few of you have some experience with these.... give up some insight, pretty please. =)

This will be my first minelab.

Thanks in advance.

I can tell you that all three of those coils are killers on deep turf silver...but I have never had the pleasure of beach hunting.

Some of the beach hunting fellers' will chime in I'm sure...but I would post this on the other forum too as I mentioned.

All three are good coils. The WOT covers a lot of real estate.... which is especially great on cleaner beaches. But... if you ever plan on using the coil dirt digging its difficult to hunt around trees and such with it. I also think the WOT falses a bit more over the wavy sand and the SE likes as little distance as possible between the coil and sand. IMO... i think the Pro coil is your best set up. Its matched by ML for the Explorers. The larger coils do very well in getting you depth... to large and you miss the tiny gold items. Dig it all..... well except the bottle caps lol.

You want the SE Pro coil for hunting the wet sand on salt water beaches. Two problems with the WOT coil on wet sand salt water beaches, first the weight. You want the coil just off the sand but not touching the sand, if it touches the sand it will give a false signal. Swinging the WOT while trying to hold it above the sand will be hell on your arm. The second problem with the WOT is its quite sensitive to tipping, you have to keep the coil flat, if the outside edge tips up at the end of your swing again you get a false signal. So the you lower the sensitivity giving up the depth advantage. The pro coil is light and gets great depth and quite sensitive to small gold and silver, you will be quite happy with it.

I've used the pro coil on my se pro for almost two years now and its great on the beach, ordered the 15"wot coil had a problem with it falsing when I would bump the coil sent it back and my second
15" wot coiltek coil it works great at the beach does not false unless you bump it hard other than that no falseing at all covers alot of ground fast and goes very deep sensitivity set at
15 and still digging coins at 12" or more in wet or dry sand buy a good sand scoop (aluminum), adjust the lenght of the shaft to compensate for the weight (shorter lenght worked for me)
