Hi

It's seems difficult to decide :nerd:, Im studying different coils to pick one for my MXT. Im between the 6x10dd coil and the SEF10x12 coil. The type of hunt that Im going to do is inland and there is a great probability that the good targets are deep, I would go for the famous 6x10dd but Im afraid that it wouldnt be deep enough, on the other hand the SEF seems to be loved and hated, I see very positive and very negative reviews about this coil (very strange). The things that I am looking for the most are old coins, jewelry and caches if there are some

please help!

I think you would like the 10X12, it should get an extra inch or two in depth over the 6X10.

Hi Larry

do you know if there is a big difference in sensitivity to gold compared to the 6x10dd?

That will depend on the size of the gold. The smaller coils will detect smaller gold as a general rule. Some MXT users find pretty small nuggets, called pickers, with the 6X10. Those might elude you with the 10X12, but for jewelry, you will have no problem with the larger coil. many of these finds I made were found with the 10X12.

another coil that a few ones seems to talk about is the Jimmy Sierra 12'' Hotshot coil, have you tried this one? I read somewhere that the first of these had problems, but the later models where nice

thanks Larry

I did some research and I read your older posts on the forum about the SEF, I think the 10X12 will be a nice choice for my machine

I have tried the Hot Shot and it is very similar in operation to the White's Super 12". Neither of the large conicals coils works for me very well in my ground. I use the DD and SEF only except for the 5.3. In mild ground, either of those will work fine and go deeper than the DD coils.

I know you live South of me, I just got my MXT300 last week and was able to test drive it 2 days ago in the front yard. The 12" coil seemed to run pretty stable to me, How much different would your area be? compared to mine.(also recovered 52 cents so far with another 26 in the ground still frozen:twodetecting:) I also plan on getting the 10x12 just wanna give the super 12 a chance.

I have the 6x10 and use it a primary coil. Had great luck but can't brag about amazing depth. Never used the 10x12, is there a big weight difference?

I think you will find a DD or SEF to be a better coil for you. You are up there where the ground might be more mineralized than what I have here. If I'm not mistaken you are pretty close to the galena/iron mining area.

Hey Larry ,well buddy the Galina mines are really far west of where i'm at i'm actually closer to ChainOlakes Fox lake etc.... The way i see it, ill get the 10x 12 to separate the trash better but still keep the depth.

Hi Lunker Hunter

it would be nice to hear your opinion, I planning on buy it at the end of this month :detecting:

Well depending on where you live and your soil conditions are really important,i really cant tell you how to select a certain coil i have never used so your best bet is to listen to the veterans here. I have a few links that may be helpful.
.http://www.kellycodetectors.com/excelerator/EXcelleratorMain.htm This also explains how the Excellerator coils work.

I know its not an MXT:surprised: but it helps explain how search coils work, maybe aid in your decision. http://www.goldminingcentre.com.au/Technical%20Data/techsheet-coils.pdf

No problem, I hope they help.
