which coil do you prefer on the ace 150 - 250

I have all three coils fer my Ace 250. But I tend to use the 4" sniper more than the others. It takes longer to detect an area with the sniper, but you can get closer to metal objects (sidewalks with wire or rebar, metal fences, park benches, etc.) Its great fer trashy areas and pinpoints dead on center. Gets good depth too for a small coil.

To me, they are all useful. Just depends what/where
I'm hunting. If I was hunting relics in a big field,
naturally, I'd probably be using the 9x12 coil.
Trashy areas, the sniper.
But even the stock coil is good, and can fit into
brushy places that the 9x12 is kind of clumsy in.
If I had to play favorites, I think the sniper is
the most fun, and if I only had the stock coil, I'd
get the sniper before I got the 9x12. It's a whole
different animal compared to the stock coil, and *very*
useful in trashy or busy places. But the 9x12 is
handy for covering ground quicker, and it is the
deepest reaching of the bunch. "appx 2-3 inches over
the stock coil". The sniper is good to 5 or 6 inches,
which is very good for a 4.5 inch coil. Don't let the
small size fool you. It hits hard, and can really
weed through the garbage vs the larger coils.

The large coil (250) for general hunting. The small coil to compliment the 2500 for relic hunting (I take them both) and also to do playgrounds so that I can get close to the play equipment.

Use the stock coil for cleaner ground and the 4.5 sniper coil for trashy areas. I probably used the the sniper 70% of the time. It works well. Don't have any other coils. Have no regrets adding the sniper coil, in fact, it was a good move.

I use the stock coil mostly and switch to the sniper for trashy areas or hard to get to spots. I have a Sun Ray inline probe which I use to hunt up close to metal playground equipment, chain link fences, etc.

I was just pondering something a bit...
One reason why I think the sniper coil works
so well on the ace machines...
The reason? The ace machines seem to be fast
enough reacting to be able to keep up with the
fast swinging you can do with the small sniper
coil on the end of the stick..
It's almost like swinging a vac hose around, it's
so light. So you can really hummmm along at a fast
clip as far as the swing time. And the good part..
The ace machines seem to be able to keep up
pretty well.
Some machines don't do so well when swung fast.
They like a slower pass.
Anyway, just a theory as to why the sniper coils
seem to be such a hit with the ace 150/250 users,
and why many prefer them nearly full time, even in
larger areas.
MPG will vary as usual..

About 95% of the time I hunt with the large coil. It gives great ground coverage, it seems to be able to get between targets well enough that I usually don't need to attach the other coils, it pinpoints almost as accurately as the other 2 coils and if I want to get real close to metal objects, I just drop the sensitivity right down; a 1 bar, I can still ping a coin that is only 2 inches from a metal pole(only shallow coins though).
Sometimes I will put the standard coil back on if the ground becomes a bit too trashy and sometimes I will put the sniper on if it is too trashy. The sniper coil will allow you to get closest to metal objects than the other 2, allowing you to recover the coins that the other 2 can't, but has the special ability to hunt directly under metal objects, which is something that most detectors can't do. To do this though requires that you hunt with the pinpoint button held down. While you don't have any discrimination, you are not giving off a signal above the coil (coaxial coil). When I first got the coil, I'd read about this on this forum, I tried it out, and managed to pull up a $2 coin directly under some play equipment while the top of the coil was in direct contact with the metal above! It still gives off a signal to the side though, but you can angle the coil in such a way as to find targets that other detector's can't! i won't use it for general hunting very often, as it feels like I'm tryng to cover the ground with a toothbrush.

Yeah the response and recovery are so fast it's almost impossible to swing it to fast and miss a target. I noticed that right off when I field tested it. Has anyone used a 250 in a competition hunt?

I use mostly the stock coil. Snipe for trsh areas, 12" for large areas and the beach.
