help i am a newbie and there are so many beach/surf metal detectors out there i don't know which one to choose - can i get some hekp from you pros? thanks judith

Hello Judith:

Read back through the old posts as this will give you important information on the better detectors as well as how to use them. Check out all of the great finds that get posted and see what sort of detector those pirates are using, this will put you on the right track.
Plan to spend around $1,000.00 for a really good underwater detector. Excal, CZ-21, Beach Hunter ID, Surf PI Dual Field, to name a few are all great units.

i have done some research and read that tesoro has lifetime warranties and white's has a 2 year warranty. any comments on tesoro's sand and/or tiger shark?

Tiger Shark is excel ant for fresh water and find small gold i.e.small earring studs and chains.
I use Whites BHID and PI PRO and have had good finds on beaches and in the water.
These will work in salt and fresh water.
I've used the BHID on land (soccer fields) and have found gold rings and clad with it. Pinpointing is a slight learning curve.
Sand shark I've never seen any info on the forums about it.
Tiger shark would be a good choice I think..

Tesoro (tiger shark) by what I understand will work either in Salt or Mineral but not both at the same time so ck with the guys at the tesoro site and ck your hunting area as to which one is best to use a sand shark or tiger shark.

I have CZ-20 and Sandshark. I have limited time with the Sandshark and need to spend more time learning it, but have found goodies with both detectors and like each for different reasons. If you are going to do dry beach areas as well as wet beach and surf areas, with a PI type detector you will end up digging every tent stake and bottle cap that people like to leave in the dry areas (Sandshark is a PI). There aren't as many tent stakes and bottle caps in the wet places. If you are only going to have one detector for wet and dry, I'd lean towards a non-PI detector like the CZ-21, Excalibur , Beach Hunter ID. Like BDA said, read back through old posts. Oh ... and welcome to a great hobby.
