Where's the wheat?

Hey guys, I have been detecting for a few weeks now, and have been hunting mainly old schools. Unfortunately, the schools are still in use, so I'm finding lots of current coins. I have so far dug up 145 coins, and not the first one is even a wheat penny! How many coins did you guys have to go through before you started finding the good stuff? I have been hunting with a bounty hunter quickdraw II, a bounty hunter discovery 2200, and an Ace 250.

Go to the old play fields and check there.

Old grandstands, find out where the concessions stood. Try some local history, older town guides, etc.

You'll start finding them. Unless you live where the soils so corrosive for copper that penny's dissolve.

keep searching youll find them......:clapping::detecting::garrett:

Keep hunting your wheats are under the clad. Some times you got to get rid of a layer or two of clad and trash to get the good stuff.

Sometimes they will also suprise you. I found a 1900 Barber Quarter at a modern school.

I will say though that most of my wheats have been found on private land, and old ballfields, Beale.

They will come.. Old schools and parks are usually pretty good places but you might try getting permission to hunt around some old houses that are for sale. I have found several silver coins and loads of wheat pennies around these type sites. I have also found really out of place coins at some modern schools because I believe kids take them from their parents coin collections and lose them on the playgrounds.
