Where's the quarter?

opacific

New member
I have had my MXT for about a month now, and I will be posting photos of all my finds for the month. I keep finding that I get a strong signal +81 to +83. I would say that 75% of the time, I end up digging out a folded-over piece of aluminum, or folded-up pull tab. Do you just learn to distinguish audio signals over time, or have to keep digging everything in +80's???

Also, most of my +80 signals show "buckle", but are 1990 or newer quarters. Why does the MXT think that a quarter is the size of a buckle (regardless of depth)?

Last question...What version of software do you have loaded in the MXT? I show version 1.0

If you are seeing buckle on the display you are running in the relic mode which is my favorite one to run in. This don't go by size of the object, but by conductivity of the target is why it reads buckle as the conductivity is that of a quarter.
Now on the alum cans and such that will read in the same area of the 80s you will dig a few of them too and feel when you get to know your MXT a little better you will see these signals are bigger, not a solid sounding or will change ID numbers when sweeping the coil over it for a different direction. Once you have used it for a while it will get easier to tell them from a coin, but you still will get fooled by a few.
I like the relic mode as I have 2 different tones and set my disc to reject the pull tabs and listen for the high tones mostly and just check the ID number, but will do a quick look at the low tone items too if they sound deeper. Can swing right a long and do well with it.

Version I is the only version. I don't remember pulltabs giving me an 80's reading. My cans usually read 75 and read shallow, 1 or two inches. When you get to 4" and still get a good signal you know it's a can. When you get those 80's readings pull the trigger, a quarter pinpoints small. You will outline a much bigger target for a can or large aluminum target. Rob
