Where's the Gold?

I have read on here that coins usualy lay flat and are found most of the time within a few inch's. I have found that to true, my question is what about the gold rings, do they sit flat or do they work there way down more in an upright postion? Not only the gold but any object of the shape. I don't care if I ever find one I am excited with the hobby itself. Just looking for information. I have found about $10.00 in clad and some other stuff that is worthless on the market but I am proud to share them with all my finds to anyone who ask me " What you Looking For ? "

Depending on the style of the ring they will usually be laying flat or in other words, on their side. This is what makes locating a ring a bit tricky. If you are using a probe, your machine will tell you it's there, but often your probe will go through the inside of the ring making it hard to locate, time to dig a plug. On the other hand if the ring is designed with a wide top with a symbol or stones it may be lying in any position. It is always interesting to me how they are able to burrow down below the surface. Unless it was recently lost and laying on the surface, they can be found at any depth. It is always a thrill to find a ring or jewelry of any sort. Be patient and when you least expect it, you won't be disappointed.

The trick to finding gold rings is to hunt where gold rings are likely to be lost. It would be unusal for someone to be walking in a park and their ring falls off. I know it probably has happened. But look where there is some sort of action....Volleyball courts...Fresh water and salt water beaches...Soccer sidlines....Kiddie playgrounds ( I recently found a 14k gold ring with three diamonds under the swings. Mommy pushes baby and a ring may slip off and become lost in the sand or woodchips....I made my best gold ring find at a local fresh water beach. Man's 14k with 5 nice diamonds. I had it apprasied. It appraised for $2000.00. In my thirty years of detecting I have found well over a hundred gold rings......Just a thought.....Jack

hey oddjobbob, i have found gold rings and pendants in the craziest places... the wonderful thing about our hobby is you just dont know what youre going to find, or where. i recently found a girls modern 10k gold ring on a civil war battlefield, and a 14k pendant in the woods. gold seems to be wherever you find it. hh,

I have the ideal spots for finding such things. My concerns are when I go to dig . I noticed that coins are 99% found flat a couple of inch's down so I try to go below that point and plug them out. With the ring being and odd shape I was curious to how time effected them on the cover up and dropping down into the soil would be. I guess being an odd shape it would vary.

this nuggett was found in a dry wash about 2 miles from home in nv. on frist day out with a tracker 4 8in coil down about 4 in .
