Myself and Dr. Bill hunt pretty much everyday during our lunch break at the local parks in town. Being a fairly small town we have cleaned these parks out pretty well. That being said we still do produce the occasional silver out of em. I think it is the parks trying to keep us coming back to visit lol.
We have been trying to research new areas to hunt, not only during our short lunch breaks, but also on the weekends and such. We have found a lot of written accounts from the civil war era and even more modern ones but many of the land marks they describe either no longer exist or mean little or nothing to us. So my question is, how do you guys find the history of where to look? We have found a couple spots where an old school, church, etc might have been but would like to find more concrete information. We are in the Northeast corner of TN, not far from VA and old maps are pretty hard to find. As a matter of fact we have found none for this area. We do know that several civil war battles were fought around here and there was a colonial presence here. Not to mention anyone remotely familiar with the area knows that men such as Daniel Boone cut through this area quite often. There is a lot of history around here but finding exact locations is proving to be very difficult.
We would love to find area maps such as Sanborn maps that show where the old roads were, residences, schools, churches, etc. basically the normal places one would want to hunt. I have searched the internet front to back (yes I reached the end and turned around ) with pretty much no luck so far. This forum has been very helpful. I have utilized the links Harold put on here for TN but again there doesn't seem to be any maps for this area. Where else might I look?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
