as I have a lot of questions on the ETrac, been wanting one for some time now. I have White machines, XL Pro and M6 so Im not exprerienced using something as complicated as an ETrac,Explore,DFX or V3. However I can learn. Im gonna be incapcitated due to an upcoming surgery for about a month.
Im ready for a new machine so Im trying to learn as much as I can and have downloaded the ETrac manual and will order Andys book.
From reading thus far, seems the Etrac may be easier to use than a V3,dunno, just what I get from reading. But Im not familiar with the screen, how to black out for disc etc. I hunt mostly older farm sites, and use very little disc, just enough to knock out nails. I do have some places in town where very old sites exist but are so polluted with modern trash and old iron that its difficult to detect. I cant dig and sift there but can and do have permission to dig small holes as long as i cover up/ which I always do anyway. I very seldom hunt parks.
Am I looking for something thats impossible, Im hoping the ETrac will speak to me in either of these environments. Ive read post where some excel in nasty sites, plus some of you use conductive and some ferrous(and is ferrous an all metal mode? i assume it is but maybe a motion all metal mode), do four tones work better that all tones, I think someone told me they use ferrous and two tones. Guess thats something I will have find out for myself.
Anyway Im concerned with how to set the screen up or make my own screens and save them.
I recall reading, many of you Minelab guys rely on sound first, but dont recall if thats from the Explorer forum or ETrac. Ive not had good results relying on sound with multiple tones of the M6, its good on shallow easy targets, mainly clad, Ive found a few deeper wheaties but mostly iron. The XL Pro is a different story but it doesnt have tones, dont think I will ever get rid of the XL Pro.
What small coils are recommended for the ETrac also?
Does Minelab take care of their warranty/customers?? Does it take them long to service a machne if you have to send it in??
Ive read some say it does well in iron and some say it falses more than the Explorer. Is there a way to deal with the wrap around and hot rocks? I dont have a lot of hot rocks, the area I hunt is pretty mild in minerals, but I do encounter them at times.
I will have more questions as I read the manual if you guys dont mind.
Thanks,
John
