Where to hunt

I have a lot of trouble finding good places to hunt..Driving around the area, I see
some vacant lots and places where houses used to be, But I am afraid that I may get run off..How do you guys
find you hunting spots???Also some places are vacated, and looks a little on the bad side..Maybe I should carry some
pepper spray ????

Try the site historical aerials you can look back to the 30s like google earth and compare than and now and see what was there.I find a lot of old houses that used to be where fields are now.I get tons of old spots thet way than just find out who owns them and ask.

You can go on your county's web site. Our's has a map section that allows you to zoom in and click on the property your interested in. This way when you knock you'll know the owners name. The website Historic Arials is also a great site. In my area you can go back as far as 1937. This has helped me alot in finding old home sites that are just farm fields now. Most land owners dont mind letting you go out in the field to hunt. You still have to get permission though. On the upside, you may just get leeds on other sites. As far as empty lots go, find out the owners name thru the county and look the owners name up in the phone book. I've done it and have had good luck. Be freindly, wear clean clothes and be courteous. Dont show up to early or to late to ask. Worse case, you get a no, keep trying. You might just find that unhunted hot spot. Good luck, Joe.

In my area the best places for clad is parks, fair grounds and ball fields and for silver the lawns of older private homes.

Another way to look is check with the real estate listings looking for older homes and then ask for permission. Often once the house has gone unconditional the owner doesn't care if you dig around. Works well in New Zealand at least.

Well I will be looking for some places...One of the biggest problem I find with detecting yards is trying to dig in Zoyoi grass..That stuff is inches thick and really hard to cut into...
How do you guys cut through that stuff??
