Where to hunt on sites

I am new on this site but not new to Detecting lets get some new ideas and help some new guys.

I am a coin hunter so this only holds true for coins. I like to hunt old Houses. Here is what I look for.

1. Try to pick a well kept house. An old House that has been rented out to renters who mowed over Aluminum cans is hard hunting. First choice in any old House is the Drive Way. Coins fall out when digging in pockets for keys and these are high traffic areas. Coins are shallow here due to the gravel and finding a bunch of Coins always charges my battery.

2. Walk way from Drive way to main entrance. This is not always the front door. Coins here are usually deep and you must first find those new Coins to get to the old ones down deep.

3. Clothes Line For these younger guys this is the place where the clothes were hung up to dry. No Dryers back then. This may be an old pipe T sticking out of the ground and often the other end was a large tree that may or may not be there anymore. Hunt underneath and several feet to each side.

4. Out House and walk way to it. Out House here in the South will usually be on the North Side of the House and may no longer be standing. It will always be at the edge of a lot or some distance from the house.

5 Around the Well This old Well was visited at least twice per day and was an important structure.

6 The yard where the Kids played

7 Last place is directly under the House if it is gone. This area is full of junk and the only coins you will find are ones that fell out of the house as it as torn down.

My Son always wonders why I get so many coins when we get to a new spot and this is why. I don't waste time hunting unlikely places until I have thoroughly hunted the other spots.

Any other thoughts or tips?

A few more suggestions
When hunting parks, try to figure out the places that aren't the obvious heavy traffic areas, but may have been in previous years, as well as unlikely seeming areas. Chances are these spots haven't been hit as often as the current traffic and high use areas. Areas with bushes and/or other growth were probably open at one time and many detectorists don't try to see what the growth might be hiding. This hint also includes hunting any area that is more difficult as the lazy hunters will have passed them up.

ALWAYS have your detector on - from the time you leave your vehicle to the time you return. You never know where or when that special target may show up under your coil.

As tiresome as it is, resign yourself to digging pull tabs, aluminum can slaw etc. if you want to consistently pickup gold rings and small jewelry.

Overlap your coil swing by at least 1/2 and keep it low and slow as well as parallel to the surface of the ground. Speaking of coils, when possible, add a small "shooter" type coil to your arsenal for the seriously trashy areas. They can pick goodies out of the trash much better than larger coils, although you do have to slow down a fair bit to get the best out of them.

Most of all, don't get discouraged early on, be persistent and have fun.

When I was a kid back in the early 50s, the old house we lived in had an old wooder floor. Where an old knot was once a hole soon emerged and I remember dropping coins in there to the ground below. I'm sure those coins are still there, the old house still stands today but on private property. HH
