Where should I start

Old railroad camp 1900. This is all thats left. Area under bridge is great for trout fishing. I'm going to spend the day hunting around here the first chance I get but since it's 150 miles away I want to make the most of it. 1 mile hike along tracks to get to it so will only have what I can carry. Any advise from some of you fine folks will be appreciated.

Take some dehydrated food if you are staying over night, it saves a ton of weight. Remember to boil your water for 5 minutes or bring a very good water filter, MSR makes a good one similar to the one used by the troops in Desert Storm. Water is more important than food and you don't want a case of beaver fever to deal with or that 1 mile hike will seem like 50 miles. This time of year you can get away with a tarp and some rope if the bugs aren't bad but allow for a light weight tent just to be safe.
Bug repellent and a decent compass just in case you decide to go exploring and get lost, hey it happens. Definitely tell somebody where you are going and when you'll be back and let them know that you'll call them when you do get back otherwise you've had trouble. Cell phones probably won't work where you are going so C.Y.A.
Other than that, have a blast and I hope you find some really kewl stuff.
Cheers,

BDA:cool:

Well you really wouldn't be that far away from me then as I am located between Corinth and Shiloh. I have hiked into areas before so your supply recommendation is well taken. Don't forget to take extra batteries also.
Best Wishes,
Scott

So how far are you from I65 as it enters TN from AL. I'm currently stationed at Redstone Arsenal here in Huntsville AL. I have In-Laws in central TN so I have to find someplace to go when I go up there. Typical husband/mother-in-law thing. I'm looking for someone to hunt with in TN., so keep me in mind if your planning a good trip. I'm not really new at this, but I have been out of the loop for a few years. Military work has kept me really busy for the last few years, but now I have a staff job.

There are no known CW sites in this area, but there is a permanent indian camp about 1 mile up river from the bridge. Used to find arrowheads there as a kid. Liberty TN is just up the road, lots of CW action there.

:Bombgod ,I would love to hunt with you but I am being stationed in North Dakota. Tennessee sounds real good. LOL Good luck, looks like a great site. It looks like my hunting partner and I have found a French campsite in Mainz . We are heading back tomorrow afternoon. So far we have found about 60 dropped minnies and 7 French buttons .Gota get all of this hunting in before I PCS. Good luck on your site ,looks good!!

Looks great!I'd start near that fireplace work my wayout...watching for sign of the outhouse, and the trail to the river...must be one. Lots of Luck!!

I've had to do it many times myself to get to places others wouldn't bother. It looks like something out of the bush here! Love the chimney. I would take the detector, a hand pick, a ruck sack on the back with water, munchies like fruit cake for extra energy, a triangular bandage in case you get bitten by a snake, and a pair of gloves. And I always take a compass. And always let someone know where you are, or take a partner with you, who hates detecting but loves walking, then you've got the site to yourself to detect in! Overall, you're not going too far out of your way so you should be okay. I envy ya! I really love the photo of the rail bridge. You should also check out the area below the bridge and along side the hill, for old bottles and try detecting there too. People back then would have thrown all sorts of junk out of the windows, but treasures to us! Let us know how you go!
