..'cause with the looming release of the new discriminating PI detectors the bottom might fall out of the high-end VLF detector market. Right now, a major part of the marketing strategy seems to focus on the 'depth wars' and accurate ID. Well, the new PI's should get much greater depth and better ID at depth (in hot soil). Who'd want to buy a $1000+ VLF detector when a PI could do much better. If you look at the specs for the Pulse Devil, it has features that make for a very attractive detector to own. It's also upgradeable. White's is also rumored to have a disc'ing PI in the works.. that might be their newest and greatest. Who knows. They might even feel that the DFX is adequate for now. The company to watch is Garrett; if they come out with an enhanced Ace 250 at a bargain basement price it might very well hurt the other manufacturers badly (financially that is). There might have been a big scare because of the Fisher fiasco(s). There are only so many dud detectors that a company can come out with before their ship is sunk. I have a feeling that the Prism series might be one of them. Yup, there will be people out there who will chip in saying otherwise, but it really has the smell of the Quantum II/QXT floating around. I mean, truly, just check out the price of the Prizms and features and coil selection vs. the Ace 250. On top of this there's the looming threat of Chinese competition; they're coming and the days of flogging feature limited detectors for premium prices are coming to an end. ..Willy.
