Where do I start!!::ranting::clapping:

Well, my vacation east of here was nice as far as the weather goes. Stayed at a campground that my wife and I have driven by several times and finally decided to check it out. We ended up with the best spot in the whole campground and stayed there a week. Got everything all hooked up and decided to run down to the store and pick up a few things. Just before we left I turned on the kitchen faucet and when I turned it off the whole top of the faucet blew off and I had water all over the place. My wife finally got the water turned off and we mopped up the mess. Ran down to Wally World and picked up a new faucet, got it installed and that fixed the problem. Sat morning I turned on the furnace to take the chill off inside the trailer and it came on and then it wouldn't come on again. I just paid over $300 last April to have it fixed and it lasted about an hour!! OK, enough of my trailer problems. Well, that old farm house that I posted a picture of turned out to be a bust!! I wasn't there but about ten minutes and my SE started to go nuts on me. I was getting all kinds of noises through my headphones and no matter what I did to try and fix it, nothing worked. I don't know if it was the coil or what, but it sure ruined my chance to hunt this place that is over a hundred years old. Luckily, before my SE went south on me I was able to detect this little triangle shaped park in an old neighborhood and managed to sniff out two mercs dated 42 and 45, two wheats dated 50 and 56 and my fourth SLQ dated 1928 and a 50 cent Mexican coin.:clapping: I'm thinking this is a great place, but it all came to an end. One of the neighbors didn't appreciate me metal detecting in "their" park and told me that if I didn't leave that he was going to call the sheriff. I tried in vain to show him how neat and tidy I was at doing my plugs, but he wouldn't have anything to do with it or me. I didn't press the issue and spoke under my breathe and thanked him for the coins that I did manage to bring to the light of day once again. I also got a cheap ring and an old dog tag. I thought the number 442 on it was kind of cool and my first thought was the old Oldsmobile 442. Now for the best part of my post. I never thought I would find a LC without going back east someplace, but my prayer has been answered and I found it at the most unlikely place. I drove past this grade school a couple of times and didn't stop. After my SE went bonkers I grabbed my Predator II and went to this school on Thursday the day before we came home and glad I did. I would have liked to have found this LC in some old dirt someplace, but you gotta take em where you find em. I'm sure some kid took it to school for show and tell or something and lost it. I'm sure his or her dad are not very happy about it, but it sure made my day and now I can scratch it off of my finds list. It's dated 1835 and my oldest coin to date and I'm still pinching myself. Sorry for the long story fellows. My invitation to hunt that old farm place is still open and I will be back there one of these days. Thanks for looking and HH everyone.

Wow Eddie, talk about bittersweet !! Sure glad to see you got some great finds in spite of all those trials and tribulations .:thumbup::thumbup:

Eddie thats just some good stuff,

Hope trailer and SE Pro gets back to normal!

Nice finds!!

That's a tale full of highs and lows. Super finds tough - that's a nice Standing Liberty quarter and a nice large cent. Hope you can get your SE working soon and get back to that old farmhouse. HH

WTG Eddie! :clapping:
Thats ALOT of good stuff you found in that little park! Thats the first time Ive heard of someone getting run out of a public park, thats a shame, sounds like it hasnt been hunted before. Maybe try researching if metal detecting is allowed there by calling thats citys parks and rec dept. and next time your in the area hit it again and if they try running you out tell them youve got permission. Finding that much stuff in such a short amount of time in any park now adays is rare.

Wow Eddie! What a trip! Nice job at the park; I agree with Aaron -- find out if it's indeed legal, and then try again. Sorry your Explorer went bonkers; please let us know how it goes with the repair. That farmhouse HAS to have some goodies hidden in it! NICE job on the LC...I can't imagine finding something like that! Wow. Great SLQ also, that coin is on my list of things I hope to find. Finally, sorry your trailer is giving you fits! That stinks! What an adventure though -- one you'll remember!

Mr Hirscmann's post about his problems with his SE I will check mine out for any loose connections and etc and try a different coil. I did learn a lesson and that is to always take a backup coil with you and another Minelab detector when you go on a trip someplace. I have both and left them at home.:ranting: Thanks again fellows. GL & HH.

Eddie, what a great way to handle adversity. You turned a potential disastrous trip into a big success. And such wonderful finds, the standing liberty quarter and large cent. HH

Eddie, I would digress a little from Aaron and SGoss's advice, and instead of phrasing the question "is it allowed?" or "is it legal?", Phrase it this way instead: "Is there any rules that prohibits metal detectors?" In that way, it puts the burden of proof on them, to produce such an actual rule. Not just a whimsical "no" on their part (because they morph something else to apply to your pressing question).

You see the difference? To ask "is it allowed" type wording, merely makes it as if you were asking their permission. On the contrary, if there is no specific DIS-allowance (ie.: a rule against), then so be it. In the same way you wouldn't think to ask permission to fly a frisbee, for instance. And if someone "has an issue", you can say "I checked with the rules, and there was no prohibitions".

I will definitely check out any laws about detecting in that little park I was asked to leave by one of the neighbors. I don't like to cause any waves and like I said in my post, I didn't want to argue with some guy I didn't know. I remember one time we had a club hunt in another town not far from here and we were detecting the strips between the sidewalk and the streets and one of our club members got into a heated argument with one of the people living on this street and the next thing we knew this guy came out of his house with a baseball bat and wanted to bash in s few heads. Then the cops showed up and we tried in vain to tell this one cop who was a real a$$ that these strips are city property and not owned by private citizens, but he wouldn't listen to us. Next thing we knew a police Sargent showed up and we told him the same thing. He said I will check on it and after a little while he came back and said that yes, indeed these strips are city property, but would appreciate it if we used a little discretion and if it looked like the strips in front of any house looks like it has been kept up then to just move on. Thanks again fellows for all your replies. HH.
