Where do I find..........?

Question:

Does anyone know how close to old houses people used to dump their trash. ALso how close were the
out houses? I know of an old house (cicil war period) I would like to check out but not too sure
where to start useing my metal probe. I'm really new to this.

Hey Robert, im new to digging and stuff as well (im 15) and asked a similar question. go to the post "lots of bottles and stuff ---junk?" near the bottom of that post some people answered my questions about finding a privy spot.
Im not sure about finding really old dump sites, but iv been digging up a dump site from around the 60s i think, but everyone said it's mostly all junk since it's to new.

Whats the date of the house?The smaller section looks like a add on.If there is woods near by, chances are there is a dump some where,walk the woods and look for signs of broken (old glass)if there was no woods then the privy is your best bet.Since there was no trash pick up most people tossed there trash into the outhouse hole.On farms where they had a lot of land dumps where used.The age of the house is the key.If it is to new post 1900 then I wouldn't waste my time on the dump or the privy. But thats just me, I like bottles before the automatic bottle machine came into play they had more character in that era.
