I have not been in the detedting long but it has turned out to be very rewarding. I would like to buy a good digger, pinpionter, and some other stuff. Where would a person go to buy such items?
Does anyone have a good leed? Where can I get books and magizines? Thanks for any help

Here's a good digger you can get at wal-mart for $7.

I got this shovel at wal-mart for about $5 and shaped it a little with a grinder.
I made a belt holder for it out of some thick wire.

For tot lots you can get a plastic scoop at wal-mart for $3.
For wood chip tot lots make a Arkie Barkie. It's $3 at wal-mart.

Check it out. It makes wood chips easire and quicker.

HH,

Can't help you on the pin pointer but I use a heavy duty hand shovel from Lowe's or Home Depot to do my digging. The one I have has a wooden handle and the blade is marked in inches to give you some idea of how deep you are digging. My pouch that I use to carry my stuff is a carry tote with a handle that I got at a trade show to bring home all the sponsors giveaway brochures.
You might try ebay for the pin pointer. I see some good deals on MD there. In fact I am in pursuit of of several auctions even as we speak.

If you do not want to go with Wal-Mart, or make your own, there is always:

Hope this helps,

That is a hard one. There are so many different ones and it's hard to know what features are needed.

That is they have their good points and bad points. It's hard to decide that for someone els.

I kind of like the Whites. But it is not real high quality. It's just simple and works well. Fairly durable.

HH,

It quit raining just long enough to go out and at least try it and see if it works, in 10 minutes I got 2 pennies , a quarter , a nail, a nickel and a 9 mm casing. I thought that wasnt bad for the first ten minutes in my front yard. On the way home I stopped at the local walmart and bought a garden trowel for .94 one of those little forks on a long prong I think its called a deweeder for the same price. In town today they had a semi tool sale so I went out there. They had a very cheap ice pick for .50 Then when I got home it wasnt raining and I went out armed with the ice pick and trowel. On the first sound I stuck the ice pick in the ground and bingo it stopped about an 1 1/2 inches , with the trowel I dug down and flipped out a pennies. Now I know from the experts that isnt much but for the first time in just trying it out I think I found the federal reserve bank myself. Cant wait for the rain to stop
So I dont know what you need to dig with really , but I think at first try I did pretty good with the ice pick

That true temper handle hurts my hand.

They have a Fiskers at Wollie-World like
the True Temper that's a little cheeper.

I prefer this Fiskers to both those. It's
handle doesn't hurt my hand and it's
thinner and sharper and has a better point.

About a month ago I purchased the True Temper "7 in 1 Planter's Buddy" mentioned above. I am very pleased with it. Because it is sharp and narrow it cuts a very nice round plug. Would highly recommend.

Hey Tabdog thanks for showing a pic of that Fiskars. Two Walmarts did not have it, so I tried Target, $9.99 in their garden section called Big Grip. Tried it out on weeds, works great!

The notch at the tip is great. Stab a small root up to about 3/8" and twist. Root be gone.

That saves time.
