Where did all the Musketeer guys go?

Sven

Well-known member
You rarely see any posts about them anymore. There has to be alot of them sitting in closets?

Yes I was thinking the same thing. There are quite a few good posts on the Minelab Owners Forum about the Musky. The Musketeer Advantages are top notch fast and deep machines that have been out for a while that are overshadowed by the new VDI and high tech machines. But the Excalibur and Sovereign GT are basic machines too.(The Musky is much faster than these BBS and FBS machines for covering as much ground in a day as possible in farmers fields and homesteads).

I just bought a second-hand Musketeer Advantage recently and cannot use it due to cold weather now. I am looking forward to using it in the spring and getting a CoilTek 15" WOT DD for it as well.

Has anyone used the round Excelerator 12.5" and 14" DD coils for the Musketeer Advantage and compared them to the CoilTek 15" WOT in performance?

Also has anyone compared the Musky to the Tesoro Vaquero in performance?

Have to order some parts, then will be adding external controls for:
Ground Balance 10 turn pot
All metal threshold
Disc Threshold

And maybe add a pinpoint switch to the handle.

Already using a Tesoro Golden Sabre upper rod, Cibola plastic lower rod.
Rear mounted the control box.
Balances pretty good!!

And just built myself a custom headset for it, cost me about $22.00 and they sound pretty good with the Sterling.

Done a fine job, great detectors, I have mine, converted to plug in re-charge, 8-2000nimh batteries, with cordless phone charger, can leave in plugged in all time, has unreal battery life, don't need GB where i live, ground extremely mild, real happy with it, bought NIB last March, so got warranty, even tho not in manufacture for bout 6 yr or something like that, turned out to be fine relic machine, hits on bullets at aroun 12 in" in very dry soil, big stuff much deeper, great on coins too, but i usually use nother outfit for that HH.:detecting:

Wow...."hits on bullets at aroun 12 in" in very dry soi"...

Doc in Las Vegas sells an upper fibreglass rod for the straight shaft Musky Advantage(or other units). To stay away from a metal upper rod, only if you want to.

Are the Colt and Sterling older versions (in the evolution) of the Musky Advantage??

Very good for relics and most other stuff, simple ,balanced, 3 pc rod, built like a small tank :detecting:
Colts were in Sov Boxes and were the forerunner of the advantage, some hotter than others, they have very controllable sensitivity, great to use, around metal objects, just back it down or crank it up, just like a volume on a radio, a pleasure to use, I believe the same electronics as Advantage,=as i have had 3 advantages, and they all work bout the same, i think the blue box like you have is the same too, Believe it was made for market other than US, I may be wrong, but this is what someone told me or i read a while back:minelab:

I posted a message about a belt buckle I found on the Xterra forum recently. Here's a link.

Just bought a Musketeer Colt and will be modding mine to get the pinpointing and ground balance. Took it out for a first day's work and found a religious medal, some sort of weird medallion and lots of coins. A very nice machine to keep in the car for off-the-cuff hunts when out and about. I'm also waiting for my Explorer SE Pro to arrive and cannot wait to try that machine out. ;>)
