Where are all the finds?

Hello again,

I was looking through the forums and was wondering where are all the Tesoro finds? I see MANY Minelab Explorer postings of cool finds. does that mean it is that much of a better machine? I don't know. I want the best and it seems like the big money one is the best..PLEASE let me know what you think.

Mostly clads though. I have a good sized pile of clad coins and nickels since I got the machine about a week ago but I don't really like posting pics of clads unless there's gold or silver to go with them.

This weekend I'm planning on taking the Cibola out wading in a nearby lake. Maybe I'll have some good pics for next week.

If you want to see some good finds you should check out the official Tesoro forum over at the Tesoro website. Take a look at the stuff that Merf is finding with his Cibola. Wow.

Found these items at two different homesites last week.
Going back where the seated liberty and bullet were found tomorrow and do some more searching.
Happy Hunting!!

I always wondered if there is some thing better for me. that's what it boils down to. what's going to work for you and your style of searching.

I've found most of my best finds with an Explorer II, Sovereign Elite, Fisher CZ-20, Cz-70, and the Vaquero.

I owned the minelabs the longest and I hunted the sites I frequent with them first. I've found the most silver with them and as many buttons....also my oldest coin which was a draped bust large cent.

The explorer is hard to beat for finding targets......I hate it, because it feels so cheap....obviously its heavy.....not good for hiking with. It can give way too much information and some times you just have to dig.

I've tried about 4 different Cz's and my favorites were the cz-70 and cz-20. I found a lot of copper coins with the cz-70, but it also loved Iron. the CZ-20 hit easily on earrings and jewelry in the water.......I was amazed at the sensitivity it had to small targets in the water. I found my first diamond stud with it..1 carat. I kept the Cz-20 the longest........it was a simple beep and dig, but it also was insanely heavy........hip mounting helped, but the thing is still big and clumsy for land hunting.

I tried the Vaquero last winter and it instantly renewed my metal detecting interests. I did find a new place to search, but its a detector I would go back to my favorite old sites with. I found about 5 old buttons with it and weird decorated / ornate pieces of metal.. also found my biggest piece of lead to date with it. it hits hard on bullets.

The vaquero It hits hard on Iron and Aluminum, but I quickly could discriminate by the size and loudness of its tone. Every time I dug iron it was old Iron and large.like railroad spikes or weird round chunks of Iron. Its easier to distinguish Iron with this detector than most detectors.........the targets that fool this detector would fool just about any other.

If I could own them all I would own the Explorer, Cz-20, and Vaquero. if I had to choose just one it might be the Vaquero.

I'm testing out the Cortes now.........it seems promising. So far I have a lot of confidence in it. May be a favorite.

I easily dig 10 to 20 junk targets (including bullets) to every one good find.

Just one las thing..if you decide to try some minelabs: Go sovereign or Explorer.....S-K-I-P the Quattro.

Thanks digitaltim. I have the Soverign Elite and like it but its so heavy and slow. I hope you post your thoughts on the Cortes...already see someone new not enjoying it to much. Curious, what state are you in? And how hard is ti to GB the Vaquero?

I'm in CT.....

The Vaquero is the hardest detector I've ever ground balanced.......lol ...Its not impossible, but compared to others its hard........if you can balance a sov you should be able to do it.

I see a lot of people saying its easy.....

I think that's why I'd want the Cibola if I went to buy another one. I'm willing to give up a couple inches for simplicity.

I have not found the ID on this coin yet, but I have made out the word " Victoria" on the front of the coin.
I think it is some kind of foreign coin.
There is not much detail left on the front or back. All I can see on the back is a wreath like design around the outer edge and that is it. There is some writing completely around the front, but I can't make it out.
I was hoping someone might be able to give me some idea as to what kind of coin this is.

One of my gold machines ground balanced by menu + / - pushbuttons. Having a knob (pot) to turn to me is more natural. After awhile, the machines with the knob for GB comes without thinking about. It was a bit strange to me at first using a machine with factory pre-set ground balance. I caught myself with the Cibola and other machines once in awhile raising and lowering the coil during the hunt to check/adjust ground balance. Just happens without thinking.

When I entered this hobby I had the Bandido 2 uMax and now use the Vaquero. The Tesoros are much better in iron infested areas. They are really excellent units for finding brass buttons and buckles. This is my detector of choice when I go relic hunting.

I have a Sov myself and it is a very good detector if you are after lead musketballs and silver coins.
