Where are all the finds???

Where are all the finds at? I see a few posts here and there but it seems more like Q & A for coil sizes and types. Anyway, I live on an Air Force base and have been hitting an "older" part of the base that used to be base housing back in the 1950's. It was torn down in the 80's because it was too close to the runway and was LOUD for the tenants of the housing units. I found 3 wheat cents today. I was using the stock coil this time and also used relic mode for the first time ( yeah I'm a nube). I have been using coin and jewelry mode since I bought the MXT in July but decided to try something new. I had gain set at +2, discrim set at 7 (a little high for my liking but the site is very trashy and I was mainly looking for coins anyway). I also found an old 12 Gauge shotgun casing which looked interesting because it appeared to be all brass. Have of it was corroded away. I brought it home to look it up to see if I could figure out about how old it was. As I was cleaning the mud out of it I noticed something inside of it. I dug the thing out of it and it was a 1959 penny. I guess that answered the question of how old it was. Anyway, I also dug about a half pound of trash, A live bullet ( glad I didn't hit it with my shovel ) and about $1.00 worth of older clad. I know there has to be some silver at this site, I just haven't found it yet. On other occasions, I have found other wheat cents, a 1937 buffalo, and a small silver ring. I won't bore you with pictures as I'm sure most of you have already found similar items, but I just wanted to say that I wish I would have used relic mode sooner. It is much easier identifying "good" targets in this mode because of the two tones. HH

Hi Joe, if I was digging with a shovel I wouldn't be using much discrimination. I would think on the base I wouldn't be passing up the jewelry. I've hunted trash but never heard of using that much disc. I hunt trash with low disc but with a small coil. The idea is to get between the trash.

You didn't say how you were hunting in relic mode. Check the manualfor Relic with trigger in center, trigger forward with some disc, and trigger forward with no disc. Rob

No manner where you set the DISC.,the VDI works the same. The VDI is independant of the DISC. With the trigger in the center position you still hear all the disc. targets, just a lower tone. If you don't want to hear the disc. targets you need to run C/J mode or trigger forward in relic mode. The smaller coil makes all the difference. I run a 5" coil. Rob

I think it is deeper and it gives dual tones which is what I love.

If you are finding wheaties there's most likely silver there too!

found my first 2 cent piece last week using the relic mode on my XLT. I am not afraid to use the relic mode anytime after that.

I use the 4x6 shooter coil with no disc and dig all positive VDI numbers - I have found numerous coins that I would have passed up with bouncing VDI's since I stopped using the disc - coins on edge are easier to find this way to me - I wasnt finding any coins on edge until now.

Joe you said trigger centered. There won't be more noise, it will all just have the same tone. Rob

Well here are mine for today. I was hoping for another IH from this site but only wheats, a buffalo, one silver and I have no idea what the heart shaped thingy is????
