When you least expect it...GOLD!

No time to hunt much this week, many chores to do but the wife saw how crazy I am getting so she told me to go hunt far a few hours after dinner.
I went to a big Jr. college 2 miles from my home not expecting much because I have scoured this place many times but just digging in the dirt would go a long way in calming me down.
I searched around a big basketball court but only found some clad I missed in past hunts so I eventually moved over to some grass islands dividing up a large parking lot.
I hit these before, too, but this time I tried one that I had not hunted with the F2 and the sniper coil.
That set-up has been real lucky for me this year so ya gotta go with what works.
Still wasn't expecting much but I did come across this high foil/low nickel signal that seemed solid enough so I dug it.
I was expecting a large piece of foil or some can slaw but it was neither.
I think this is real old and I have no idea what karat this is but I believe it was made either before they had to mark jewelry by law or the mark just wore off because it has been worn for so long.
I will get it tested but it came up super clean out of the ground and I have dug enough gold to know what it looks like.
The thing is, I suspect this is at least 14k but it really might be much higher.
This is going to kill me till I find out for sure.
Oh yea, I also believe this is a real deal natural pearl mounted in the beautiful little thing.
The wife is the best gold tester I know and she concurs...real gold and a real pearl.

I set a goal for this year to find one piece of gold for every month of the year.
6 months in and this is my 6th piece of gold.
So far I am right on schedule!

Very cool, My mom showed me a Gold ring she has had for many years that my Aunt bought her in Turkey, It is high quality gold but has no markings, maybe it was from a foreign country where they dont mark it. Either way it appears to be gold to me as well, Great find!

Congratulations on that find and on your streak as well! :clapping: Another very informative post and great pics too, good job!

I would be happy with that

Thanks!

I think so too,,,maybe even a bit purer.
I sure hope so.
I have never found anything past 14k yet.

Nice find!

What type of signal did you get? How did you test the gold?

thanks

I haven't tested the gold but I will order an acid test kit and do that asap.
Other veterans on other forums have said to them it looks like it might just be 22 or 24k, but we will know soon enough.
It sure looks old to me, and I have seen 22 and 24k stuff in real life and it looks similar.

The signal?
On my F2 and sniper it was at first a 27-28 and it bounced a little to 30...low nickel.
I turned and hit it from a 90 degree angle and then I got a solid 28-30 on every pass.
This is rare because most gold I have found with the F2 will come in as a solid signal that won't jump more than 2 numbers and hits the same from all angles.
It might be in a trash area in the numbers, but they will usually be stable.
When I got the 28-30 I bent down to dig it because this is a solid type that I always dig.
I was expecting a large piece of foil or some can slaw, but I was surprised yet again.
Gold always does that because I still don't have my X Ray vision working.

Another reason I think this might be pretty pure is it seemed to have come in a little high for the size.
Other gold rings at 10k of a similar size have been a little lower...more like 24-26...a true foil signal.

The purer the gold, the higher the signal.

I think you have an OLDIE but GOODY.:clapping:

My money is on the ring being at least 22K, judging from its color and look.

The pearl appears to shows a lot of wear and looks to be natural and not cultured. I would think a cultured pearl would not be made up of that many layers, most likely just one or two over the planted seed. The many layers demonstrate how they're made in nature, layer by layer as seen in the last image.

FWIW, I've been told real pearl will feel hard, similar to glass when rubbed against the tip of one's tooth. Were imitation pearls usually feel softer.

My 2 cents. HH:detecting:

Through your analyses of your ring....I think you have your answer.

Looking forward to what it comes out to be.

Go find some more!
