When you hit pinpoint with the 6" DD coil.....

where does it concentrate the signal. I've never had mine outside so this is a lazy man's question. That might change this weekend as the weather is supposed to turn for the better. What I mean by concentrate the signal is if the signal goes down the middle of the coil in a straight line, when you hit pinpoint does the signal become more precise and center at the tip of the coil or rear or in the middle like a concentric?? I've never used a DD coil(couldn't you guess??), so this is all new to me. I learned a long time ago that the only dumb question is one you don't ask so take your best shot, I've got thick skin. Good luck and HH. Bob.

"X-ing" is usually the quickest over the center of the coil. But if you want to pinpoint, stop over the highest signal point, then slide the coil back towards your feet. When the signal disappears the target will be at the 12 o'clock position right at the very edge of the coil.

Take the coil to the nastiest iron trash pit you can find, you are in for a treat. You can do a one inch wiggle and see down between the iron.

I think the Elliptical DD had the target Hot Spot just forward from center. Almost exactly where the Minelab sticker tends to be placed.

On my 6" DD, the Hot Spot for Target Pinpoint is dead center. I just checked it out with a Canadian 1c coin to be sure. It is possible that it may vary from one coil to another.

Here's a quick graphic I put together for you. The green area is the general field surrounding the coil which is fairly weak. The red 'blade' shape is the primary emission field - it
has a softer edge but I didn't have time to render this perfectly. This is the Coil field that you use when hunting for targets. When I press PINPOINT, the detector can still detect the target along the blade but the signal is strongest in the center (see bright shaft of yellow in the illustration). As you slide the coil back and forth over the target, the X-70 changes pitch to let you know if you're right over it or not when in pinpoint mode.

That sure is a nice graphic.....especially considering you put it together quickly. A few of those would look good in the FAQFAQ.

and thanks to the other guys for help with the explanation. Looking like I can apply some of my book knowledge that I picked up over the winter to actual outside detecting soon. The snow is leaving, now to get the ground to thaw a little. Good luck and HH. Bob.

I'm curious to know if other users find the Hot Spot when Pinpointing to be in the same position as my own (right where the Serial Number Sticker is in the middle of the coil).
Anyone else get a different location on their 6" DD HF coil when pinpointing?

I used it in Alaska to hunt for gold nuggets last year and I use it for coin hunting most of the time. I have the 6" 18.75 DD coil that I use in trashy areas with good results.

I haven't been using my PP button on the 70 with either the 6 inch dd or stock coil. I simply find the center of the beep left to right then up and down. X marks the spot. Then dig like the wind!!!! I only use the PP button on non repeatable/ iffy targets.

My 6" 18.75 DD also pinpoints right under the sticker in the middle. Darn nice coil for trashy or tight areas. Worth every penny I paid for it.

Good hunting, John K
