when you ground balance........

what is best way? The thing is, how do you even know it is ground balancing? I turn on my detector, set the controls, then I pump the coil up and down a few times like the manual says, it doesn't make a noise, give you any message or anything? how do you know it even is working?

You're doing it right! Once the screen goes blank, you're ready to go. With the MXT it's fast and easy and only takes a second or two.

We're biting at the bit to get out to detect today, but the weather is iffy. Maybe we can get out to the old rental place near by in between rains. With this moisture in the ground we might be able to find a few more "keepers".

HH to all,
Nancy

You really don't even have to pump it to ground balance, the MXT will ground balance automatically by just swinging it like your hunting. I just turn mine on and as I am walking from my truck to where I am going hunt, I swing it a couple of times and its ready to go. Some times I don't even do that I just turn it on and start detecting the MXT will balance by its self. :detecting:

When you ground balance find a piece of ground with your pin pointer that does not have any metal in it then do your ground balance over that metal free piece of ground. Then you will be balancing your detector for just the ground.

As Bob said it will track as you start to detect even without pumping.

Try this, find a clean piece of ground by pulling the trigger so you are in pinpoint mode. Set your disc to 0, put your detector in C/J, and Trac to ground. Now pump from 1 to 6 inches until the detector doesn't react to the ground. While pumping switch to lock with your left hand. Now to tell if you're ground balanced pump the coil over the same piece of ground and if it doesn't react you are balanced. You can now turn up the disc, switch modes and switch to ground if you want and start detecting.

This comes from a sheet printed for Jimmy Sierra by Greg. This procedure was to get the max signal on targets over 7 inches. He would leave the Trac in lock and run a disc of 1 for a concentric coil and a 2 or 3 for DD coils. Rob
