Anyone have an inside scoop on when Minelab will release a new excalibur ? :minelab::minelab::minelab::minelab:

When another company comes out with a machine that makes them compete. Id bet the xcal is a money maker for them in sales....but they make a lot of money on repairs to.

If it works well why change it.:detecting: If I were to choose or recommend a beach machine based on ease of operation and a known history I would have to recommend the Excalibur hands down. Yes there have been issues, with out doubt.
However I think when you realize the amount of gold verses time used the Excalibur is right up there as the go to machine.
Just my opinion.

The One thing that I do not Like about the EXcal II is the Cheap Junky headphones that Minelab puts on the machine. Lousy fit, No noise dampening and poor tonal quality. A $1500.00 machine with a $29.99 pair of headphones. Minelab should be ashamed of themselves

Other than the Headpnones I love what the my Excal has done in the past year. It has Paid for itself.

Good point Geo....that would seriously be a step up...maybe even along with taking some of the in field tried and tested aftermarket customizations and making them factory standard?

By gosh, I'd be all in on that, and pay premium to get it right out of the box...as you noted, the right set up and rig pays itself off with a committed and insane operator behind the wheel...

They may be $15 headphones...... but have ML replace a pair. I can buy two pair of top notch headphones for the cost of repairing those yellows. BUT..... you have an option Kelleyco will put on a pair of GGA for you..... it makes no sense not to upgrade if you need them repaired. Noted ML made a couple of price changes when our econ got bad..... wonder if they are going to reduce anytime soon? Id love to see a new machine thats as simple to set up and use as the Xcal and that hates iiron like they do. Ive switched over to the blues.... i believe the Xcal II chatter to much and at half the price ..... ill take my chances on repars. Its my little protest to high pricing and repair costs too.

Hopefully if they do it will have some real changes (straight shaft, better headphones, maybe even interchangeable coils). We waited lots of years for the current Excal II to be available and other than a lighter coil, some supposedly increased "shielding" (whatever that did), and an uglier color, the Excal II didn't offer much change. The older units are actually preferred by a good number of longtime users. It seems that most folks mod it in some way. Maybe they should hire OldeBeechnut to design it. Hey Joe, so much for retirement...

Dew I have seen some of the posts and prices that Minelab charged for doing minor repairs. Almost as bad as having to have an automobile worked on which borders on price gouging. . Its good to see that someone other than Minelab has finally stepped up and started repairing the Excal's.

When I bought the EXcal II I decided quickly that the Snake Shaft would have to go. Put a 42" balanced Straight shaft and wow the difference that made. Then talked to Joe and he recommended some gel pads for the headphones. Put those on and that helped a good bit in not only comfort but cut the outside noise some. A pad on the head piece of the headphones helped a little.

I had planned on having Joe Replace the headphones but since he decided to become a Full Time Pirate I have not had that done. Since I live where it usually does not get too cold I can go hit the beach about any time. Having the Excal not be available for a week or two while headphones are replaced doesn't appeal to me at the present time.

Yes I am Addicted to the Hobby and am not looking for any program that might lessen the desire to be out playing in the Dirt/sand/water. I am thoroughly enjoying my Second Childhood.

Interesting ... I had thought the Excal II had shielding and grounding added to help them run more quiet; though I have noted a few others who lean towards the older models like you say.

Eventually I plan to have more than one Excal and more than one CZ20 / 21 ... it just isn't good to have only one when something starts acting up.

Tvr ive used and have several Xcals now..... ive also put in a lot of hours on them both. I believe moving the production to Malasia didnt help. Parts are coming from everywhere and some are just inferior. I know some of the Xcal II have a third wire that goes no where in the headphones from the pod board. Doesnt make a difference if its connected or not. You ever use an Explorer SE? Well when they first came out they used a slimline coil...... everyone ran from them and started buying the old Exp coils.... because they were noisy. The blues are smooth even in the surf or up the side of a cut that will drive an Xcal II nuts. Seems to be in its ability to GB when the coil is flipped or tilted. The Xcal II maybe a tad deeper..... but the blue is about as deep and more sensitive to smaller targets. With the smoothness you dont tend to miss as many targets.

Dew,
Thanks for the added insight. Have not used an Explorer, Excalibur is the only Minelab I've used so far.
