When RM gets back... a question :cam:

Here is a test shot of my daughter. I shot it with an SB 800, hot shoe'd, pointing at the vertical wall to my left at 60 degrees up with -1 2/3 E/V and a diffuser. I like it but I want to do better!!

Camera setting:
ISO 100
F/4.5 @ 120
Spot Metering

I want to run 2 SB 800's with silver umbrella's (because I can deal with too much light) but outside a couple stands I don't know how to do it or what size umbrella's to get. Do you? I know I shouldn't go over 48" but whats a good size for portability and efficiency? Also, how do I get the SB-800's to communicate with the camera, Nikon D-200. Well, I know they communicate through Infra Red on channels that I set in the modes but do I need a super long cord to go to the master flash?

As usual, like everyone else, I'm on a budget.

Hello there,

Start with 24 inch umbrellas.

Put your sb800's in remote mode. Use your instruction guide to help you with that. 1 sb800 should be put on channel a and the other sb800 on channel b.

Set your D200 to the commander mode with the pop up flash up. This will activate your sb800's wirelessly. With your sb800's each on a different channel you can separately control the output of each unit from the commander mode of the D200 camera. You can also designate the pop-up flash on the D200 to be used in the exposure or not. It will still flash either way in order to trigger the sb800's.
