When is Whites coming out with new detector?

When is Whites going to come out with a new detector?
DFX is discontinued, MXT is getting pretty old now too. It would be nice to see a new
MXT Relic detector like a T2, maybe with a boost mode and 2 frequencies

I want to see White's answer to Garrett's AT Pro.

A waterproof M6??? Wow! What a dream machine that would be!

My buddy and I have come up with a possible new VLF gold detector for Whites to build. The best of the best, so to speak.

Starting with the current GMZ,

We feel that the GMZ is a totally misunderstood detector and is pretty close to being the perfect vlf gold detector. Without going into the why's and what not's, It could throw old hunting techniques out the window and open up a whole new market for new and old buyers alike. Not to mention gold fields.

We feel that there is not enough control or features on the GMZ as is. There could be 2 models, a base and a deluxe.

Most important, It lacks Iron ID. This could be corrected with adding a basic screen with VDI numbers on the existing detector. This would be the base model.

The deluxe version could feature up grades such as :
auto ground balance with Trac/Loc and Ground grab , Screen with VDI numbers, and audio iron id grunt.

This could very well become the best tool for most prospectors.

I think the problem must be cost in retooling etc for new detectors, the current MXT could be improved though by just changing software and adding a boost mode like the F75 and T2. The MXT could easily take market share from T2 sales if it was improved.

Whites builds some excellent machines, no doubt. I do think there is one silent issue that is hurting the sale of White's detectors in general: weight.

Whites builds a quality and very durable product, but the machines are heavier than average these days and that extra weight has become a source of complaint for some, while others are completely unaffected by it.

The only complaint I have ever heard about white's machines are the weight (and sometimes that the standard coil size is too big for most hunters' environments). They say after a few hours their arm is tired, while those with lighter machines are still going strong.

The issue does not go unnoticed by other hunters.

I am in no way trying to tell White's what they should be doing. They certainly don't need directives from me.

But if White's is looking for input, I can honestly tell them the weight factor is keeping some people away, despite the quality product they produce.

At least, that has been my observation, for what its worth. Happy hunting to all.

May i ask something? What in you opinion is better than the V3i in it's price range, and why do you think it is better? "Certainly isn't a T2", in my opinion.

I'd love to see further development of the V3i. Something along the lines of a VX3+, taking the lessons that have been learned from the V3/V3i. More stability, more ease of use, less susceptibility to fine tuning ground balance (the V3i is VERY sensitive to GB being off just a little bit). I've had a V3i and VX3 and think the ideal detector falls somewhere between the two.

White's has a winner with the V3i technology and it just needs a bit further tweaking for more stability and consistent operation. I, for one, love the "SL" layout and don't think they should change the great metal housing and perfect balance!

Maybe a V4 will be coming out soon?

I like the metal control housings too, plastic looks cheap and breaks too easy.

I agree Wayfarer, couldn't of said any better! Just to add to yours is, the simplification of the operating manual would be a plus. The present manual is written by technical writers. When I read it, I had to go back and re-read it over and over again for it to sink in!

I don't have my V3 anymore but I think that Whites has a winner! It has the potential to be a powerful machine if you can get to use it and tweak it... It takes time, for sure.

I think some inventiveness and "engineering on the edge" left when Carl. JMHO

Maybe carl got tired of the same-o same-o and wanted them to do something outside of the box.?? I have a TDI and it's a lot lighter than my mxt for sure.Love whites but they need to get things a little deeper in the ground. With about 4 mfgs from Russia etc than can burn the grass, some one needs to step up and make a killer vlf for whites jmho, shortribs.

Whites have always been my favourite brand of detector as i mainly use the DFX,i will admit they are not easy detectors too tame but once the penny finally drops its a very easy detector to setup, infact i just use one prog called Land1 and this cover most of my detecting needs over here in the UK,of course like any other detector they do require just the odd fine tweak but thats basically it.

Had been looking at getting a TDI but when they stopped the straight shaft version and just kept the TDI sl version with that horrible 'S' shaped shaft and also the DFX replacement being made out of plastic rather than the very high build quality that we have always had with Whites machines,i have started looking at other brand names.

In the detecting arena you cannot sit on your laurels for long you have to keep bringing out new machines not every year but certainly quicker that what Whites have done in recent years,in my mind the Whites shaft arrangement was the very best, and alot of these shafts had been used for making many a modified detector over the years including myself. They may not be the lightest machine going but the build quality ment the machines lasted along time, but saying that they are also not the heaviest but the shaft arrangement that they used on say the MXT/DFX etc made it acceptable to swing for long time durations.

I never upgraded to the V3 range as i felt that although they may be great machines i dont want to spend hours adjusting all the endless combinations of setting that this detector offers,i would rather prefer to just go out detecting rather than adjust everything. This i feel although you can buy books etc for this model range could be seen as why they are not seen in a much bigger volumes than other detectors. This is of course just my personal opinion from observation over here in the UK,other makes and models can be seen by the 100s possibly 1000s but the latest Whites machines is just a few followers. This must tell you alot about the current situation with Whites detectors.

Also the fact that they lost Carl to another company as you cannot loose vital folks like him in any detecting company, these folks produce the next blockbuster detecting machines and not the top managment.

I will never get rid or stop using my Whites DFX as its found me more decent finds than any other detector but saying that i wont either buy a new one,may look for another DFX as a backup or even a MXT Pro before they stop production of that model as well.

Come on Whites its about time you folks bought out another Blockbuster.

Just wanted to second the idea of a White's version of the AT Pro. Land/Sea with good stability in heavy minerals would be a big winner. Something I could keep in my trunk full time.

Whites is one of the leaders in the industry for sure but I think they are at turning point in what direction they are going to to proceed in. Whether its to do what they have done in the past or compete in the lower end market and boost their overall sales.. It will be interesting to see what happens!

Speaking as a passionate White's guy - you are spot on about weight. I LOVED my old Classic ID's with the mods. Only had 'em for a couple of months before I started getting bad tendonitis in my elbow and thumb. I reluctantly sold them and have entered the realm of the Tesoros. I have a Vaquero and a little 8" Compadre now.

I must say, they feel very 'foreign' to me. Kind of like driving a european car or being in a strange place and not knowing your way around BUT.... They are incredibly fun and challenging detectors (in a good way) and needless to say, light as a feather.

Where I used to be able to go only 1-1.5 hours with the Classics, I can now hunt all day and do not feel like I should be in traction. While 4 pounds may sound light (the weight of the Classics, and 4.8lbs with fresh batteries), swinging that weight around can really lead to tendon issues and repetitive stress problems.

I now have the energy to dig more targets. At the end of a 1-2 hour hunt I would dread digging with the Whites because my hand, wrist (namely my thumb and the pad of my right hand) and right elbow was exhausted from swinging.

Even when I had my MX5, it's weight pulled me down after only a short period.

Whites, if you're listening - I LOVE your stuff BUT, the older I get (only 49) the tougher those beasts are to swing all day. Aircraft aluminum is an excellent material, but all that weight adds up quickly.

Please take a key from other manufacturers and lighten the load of these great machines with more modern, lighter materials. I love the Whites aesthetic but there has to be a way of mounting the electronics and power source (batteries) in the same enclosure and eliminating the need for 8AA batteries in a metal box. Can you keep the White's style display but require only a couple 9v's or maybe 4AA's mounted inside of it? There'd be many advantages to that in addition to weight reduction. Waterproofing would be easier to accomplish too.

Although i have not sold my main machine thye DFX,i have finally thrown the towel in and bought the XP Deus, the weight differance between these 2 brands are poles apart, weight has gone and hence the back and wrist problems and back out enjoying detecting gain.

If others can do it surely Whites can come up with something more modern and lighter,i will agree they did bring out cordless headphones so its a step in the right direction i guess, but i feel you are drastically loose market share by not being innovating.

I have gone through just about very top end brand in the past 2 years (V3i, Etrac, F75se and XP Deus)....and I am now down to one solid, very reliable detector.....it is not the lightest, nor the fastest as far as target separation goes and not considered "new" technology but it just plain works and is a joy to use.....I am talking about the MXT Pro...until Whites brings out the MXT Lite (weight) series - I am not parting with the one that I am using now.
