When I get the hang of this machine

What can I expect to get in the way of depth in the ground on dime size coins with the 2 coils that came with the machine? I have the AT Pro with the 8.5 x 11" and the 5x8 DD coils, will they reach the good stuff?

Hi WV62 , I think what your asking is?????? Jump back in and rephrase your Question, Is why you have no response ???
Welcome!!!! to the AT-Pro forum, The bottom Line is Ground Balancing???? and the AT-Pro wont track the ground once you G/B so its a good idea to G/B now and thean?? Not haveing a good G/B will hamper Deepth, The DD coils you have are great 4R separating targets,
Mickfin,

Like mickfin stated ground balancing properly is critical. It will depend on solid conditions, some places you can expect decent depth, others no so decent. This is not the fault of the AT-Pro, it is a GREAT machine!! The smaller coil is for more trashy areas to help you get in between the trash...works extremely well! The larger coil is for less trashly areas and good for covering more ground. Running in PRO mode is the best...the audio is incredible. Good luck!!

I've gotten silver dimes at 8-9" with the 5x8 coil in mucky ground that GB's around 85+

Great advice. For the most part if it is properly ground balanced and the coil is moving over the target you should hear something - then it's up to you to decide what to do. If it sounds good - dig. If it sounds "iffy" - dig. If it sounds like iron and you are not relic hunting your guess is as good as anyone elses.

This is pretty much what I was looking for, just trying to figure out how deep of a machine I have here. The park I was hunting in the other day I ground balanced in some spots at 78 and others in the same park it was up to 80. I was using the little 5x8 coil that day and didn't find any coins past 4", but more than likely I just didn't go over anything deeper.

Thanks,

I think what he's asking is what depth can he expect (realistically) on dime size targets (smaller coins) in average soil conditions with the two coils that he got with the machine?

I just got my AT Pro and went on my first hunt yesterday. I forgot to ground balance and still dug several targets that were deeper then my F2 would reach. I dug a button that was a little larger then a quarter at around 9 inches. It showed ten on the display and it was pretty close to that but I don't think it was quite ten inches.

90 per cent of your targets will be 4" or less. That's just the way it is. Now if tou are relic hunting that does not hold true.

In my soil in So. calif, I rarely dig anything deeper than 6".
