When I find a coin older than me, I'm happy. When I find one older than Uncle Willy, I'm thrilled!!

My mother called me to tell me they demo-ed two more houses today. The front of the houses were on the street and the back of the houses had a 10 ft. yard. The middle of the property was the collapsed house. They were 10 ft. apart. Not much to MD. I worked the one house while the workers were finishing up the second house. They scraped up a little of the ally also. I did a little PR. I had a good talk with the workers when they finished up. They all said they had seen me around a lot. They wanted to know how much gold I had found? That was a good laugh.
This is the dirt.

The jewelry is Avon and other junk. Lower left is 1944 cent. This is the cleaned.

This was in the ally 4" down. It has had a lot of cars and a few horse and buggies run over it. This is older than Uncle Willy I think?

Nice return for a hunt. I wonder if those hose nozzles will ever come back again. I sure have found my share of those.

Nice finds John, those are great coins. I know when you first moved up there you were getting a little frustrated but persistence pays off.

About those brass nozzles. Brass and copper scrap prices have gone way up. I have a bucket in my garage that I toss all that stuff in. Those brass and copper electrical deals you seem to always find by telephone poles, brass valves, any stuff like that. When it gets full I'll take it to a scrap yard. That will be a good chunk of change.

It's my preferred type of nozzle as they usually last longer than the "pistol"
type. I dug one of those up and stuck a new gasket in it, and it worked great.
You can still buy those type.
The other valve looks like a gas valve for a space heater, or stove, etc..
I have one about like it under this table..
But why there is one in this room, but none of the others I don't know..
And the house has central heat anyway.. It's never been used.
One of those home mysteries.. lol

Last year I got over $ 700 from my scrap.

Hunting is different here. Ring counts are way down. People just don't seem to lose them here like in Fl. Lots more old iron trash. If I didn't have these demo-ed houses I wouldn't be doing as well. Most of the old lawns are less mineralized and have loose black soil. The parks have hard clay or they are wet and muddy.

Wow, nice finds John! Makes you wonder what that Barber has been through since it was lost, waiting there decades for you to come along and take it home.

I often wonder how some of the old silver gets to where it was found. On that military base I continue to hit the oldest coin so far has been a 1917 Mercury dime, followed by a 1923 Merc. But the base was nothing but woods until 1941, and the base housing area I found them in wasn't built until the mid-50's. People really held onto their money back then I guess. When I find an old foreign coin I have to wonder even more, I've dug up a 1945 Filippino (Filipina) dime that was minted in Denver and it came from a school yard, not the base. Show and tell item that was lost? Some kid got into Dad's coin collection? And was it lost in the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's or what? The '23 Merc is in AU condition, it couldn't have been circulated that much no matter when it was dropped. I wish the coins could talk, and I think most of them would say "It's about time!".

I know I do. I think we have to as treasure hunters. We have to Analise the whole situation to be any good at what we do. So, we have to think like a coin(I know coins can't think). Maybe not out loud, but we ask why are you there? What has taken place that you are where you are?

There are four houses in this row. They used the back as there main entrance. It is more level. For about 10 years in the 80's my grandfather owned the third house where I found the 1902 in the ally.
