When do I use Ferrous Coin separation?

And how is it different from the High Trash separation?

Ferrous coin enables you to view multiple targets at the same time and its the only mode that does. It's also tailored to... You guessed it... Coins. High trash is used for just that... High trash. It takes small quick signals and amplifies them so they don't get masked by other targets.

Ferrous coin is the only separation mode to show two targets simultaneously? I could have sworn that High Trash did that as well...

I use Ferrous Coin Separation when I hunt in light to moderate mineralization and encounter a lot of ferrous targets in amongst the coins. Old home sites, with lots of rusty nails, would be a good example. In Ferrous Coin, I use very minimal discrimination, and typically use Combined audio. In this setup, I hear audio responses from most all targets. I ignore the low tone provided by those targets falling below the FE line. When multiple targets are passed with the coil, whether above or below the FE line, each will appear on the screen. Particularly when used in conjunction with Target Trace. But the TID will be provided for the target most resembling a coin.

I use High Trash when I hunt areas with higher levels of mineralization and the "trash" is a mixture of ferrous and non-ferrous materials (modern trash). In High Trash, I use a given amount of discrimination to reject the ferrous and certain segments of the non-ferrous trash, accepting "larger than normal" areas that represent the FE/CO values of US coins. The reason I use discrimination with High Trash is because the CTX 3030 will identify the accepted targets and ignores the rejected targets, regardless of how large those rejected targets might be. I also prefer to use 50 tone CO with this setup so I can "hear" the audio response of the accepted targets. This allows me to listen for irregular or chopped signals typically found with aluminum trash. JMHO HH Randy

Sorry I meant to say target trace

Has anyone notices using high trash the ctx sounds off if you bump the coil on the ground

Digger nailed it in his post.

I have high minerals in most areas I hunt. If I use Ferrous/Coin I have a cursor in the silver dime range at all times even when there is not target under the coil The ground alone forces a cursor to hover around silver dime. So in most sites I hunt, Ferrous Coin is of no value. I run High Trash and if it gets real mineralized I switch to Ground/Coin and that settles the machine down. Manual ground balance in high mineral also seems to help quiet the machine.

Just my two cents for my area.
