When did the current style tab first come into use?

I remember reading Nasa Tom saying the pulltab was invented in 1962.

Does anybody know when the current stay on the can (yeah right, we dirt fishers know better!) tab replaced the pull off tab.

I remember vaguely when it happened, but it didn't really register. Sometime in the 80's I think.

"stay-on-tab" style was introduced in 1975 by the Falls City Brewing Company,

I can't post the web address here. But you can google "pull tab evolution" for the full story

It may have been "1975" when it was "introduced" (or invented or whatever you want to call it), but it was not until the early 1980s, that it got to where it was on all soda brands.

I googled it, Randy. Interesting stuff, thanks!

Now I know the ring tab, what I erroneously thought of as the original pulltab, actually was introduced in 1965. Same time as clad coinage started.

You mean one of these?? Actually this can was still full until I decided to clean the dust off the top a couple of years ago. Long story short...I guess I cleaned too hard and caved in the large circle.
