First of all, I AM NOT the most experienced guy here, I didn't bring a camera, nor do I have witness's to the story I'm about to tell...................
First trip out with the CTX today, 4.5 hours. This site has been hunted by both myself and my son (E-Trac,XT 705) to death. It was the site of an old fort dating back to 1630, giving the settlers a place to hide from the indigenous population. We have hit it hard and often for about 4 years. yielding a few King Georges, some silver, some Indians, a bunch of wheat's etc. This site seems like the place where "I" beams go to die, you cant get through a swing without allot of nulling in coins, or a ton of low tones in a two tone ferrous program (ET). My CTX is set up this way: copied M1 and saved it as M6. Edited M6 to have Combined Tone Profile with slightly re-sized bins and tones, changed High Trash to Ferrous - Coin Separation, turned Fast OFF, set to Pinpoint Sizing. Then edited P2 to have zero discrimination. Set User pad to represent Previous Mode. Can now toggle back and forth between M6 and M1 with the User pad. And toggle between P1 and P2 with the Detect pad (THANK YOU Digger) For the first hour, dug everything, just to prove to myself what the machine was telling me, got some really nice 300 year old nails though. Next I got more selective, and dug signals that "might" be a coin or button, got some fired lead and some junk. Next is what made a common find a great find: I got a 12/28 @ 8 inches, dug about a 4 inch plug and got a nail, rescanned the hole, still a strong 12/28 dead center. Removed another couple inches of dirt, a couple more nails, target still in the hole, at this point I thought the machine was full of it, but kept digging. Two more inches of dirt, and guess what? Two more nails, but on rescan, 12/28 came up strong, one more handful of dirt and out pops a little heart pendant, thin copper and about the size of a penny. The CTX was SURE it was there and I had the sense to listen to it. Now I know the target was no big prize, but the way the 3030 presented me with the information was cool. Had this been a pine tree shilling, I would have found it in its bed of nails. I, like allot of other 50 ish 12 year olds on the forum hope to take a new detector out and hit silver and gold the first day, but to me this was just as good, the CTX proved to me that in addition to better balance (yes, it does matter, NO discomfort after 4.5 hours) a great intuitive keypad layout, being waterproof ( yes, I did hose it of when I got home, it was filthy), and being able to toggle between hunt modes, brilliant!, that this is a keeper. I'd have to say by my Micky Mouse, non-scientific testing, that it is indeed faster, and has better deep target ID than the E Trac which I loved. This one was worth it to ME. Thanks for reading my ramble
