Wheat to silver ratio?

marcomo

Well-known member
In Michael Chaplan's excellent book, The Urban Treasure Hunter, he said the expected wheat to silver ratio when detecting is 6 to 1.

OK, I must have had one too many of glasses of iced tea at dinner tonight so I'm still up and I actually counted.

It's 7.06:1 which is lower than I would have guessed before I counted.

I'm curious as to what ratio others here are finding?

My ratio has been 4-5 wheat pennies to every silver coin, That's an average spread out over time.

4 to 1 last time I took the time to count up a years finds.

I dont know my wheat ratio because i put them in a pile with others but
my silver to Indian head ratio is 1.64 silver to 1 Indian and Merc dimes to Rosies is even

I don't keep a wheat total anymore, but it currently would be well over 10 wheats to 1 silver. I have one site that I hunt quite a bit and it still yields 2-3 wheaties just about every time out, but silver only on occasion, anymore. Over the years, a 6-8 to 1 ratio was pretty close for me. Not anymore, though. HH jim tn
