HI

What is the oldest wheat cent, that any body has ever fowned? I have fowned a 1917 and a 1919.

write back. cion2

wow! The ones, I have found have no vdb,on them. And came out with a redich cooler. that means heavy minalization in the ground right?

cion2

Probably means that they are in a damp location, as the water oxidizes the copper (rusts it) And yes there are usually minerals present, which don't help either!!!

I have been hunting coins with a metal detector scence 1979.
and have found four (4) 1914d,s Never a 09 of any kind. darn it any way.

The oldest Wheat penny made was the 1909 which several different ones where made. The 1909 the 1909 VDB the 1909 S are the one we all want the 1909 S VDB. In my 33 year of detecting I know I dug over 75 1909 and over 20 1909 VDB and not one 1909 S or 1909 VDB up here in ND. We do seem to find a lot of the 1924 D up here for some reason or other and don't know of any 1914D found, but have seen a few of the 1922 plains found and have found 2 of the 1931 S. The 1919 seem to be the most common old Wheaties found before 1920 followed by the 1918.
One of my detecting buddies that seems to get out more has over 600 Wheaties this year he has found.

Hey guys i found i 1998 without the copper on it just the zinc found in a fire job not sure why theres no copper on it did the mint forgot if any one knows let me in Thankz

The copper is only a wash and not really even a plating. Could be the zincer in question missed the bath somehow.

Seen a few that look this way come though our business, but think it is just wore off or someone was messing with the penny. One I found detecting looks like it is silver, but know it is not as it read as a zinc penny on the Explorer and feel someone was messing with it and coated it with something. The ones I seen no copper or think there is no copper are a dull gray looking.
