whatsit and a chicken blinder?

Found today at site from maybe late 1800s into first few decades maybe of 1900s....iron thing looks like it was designed to be pounded into tree/post,short piece hinges on piece forged into larger piece....has ridges you can see in pic which aid in anchoring into wood, i assume,...the flat nail was like that when dug up and is only spot on short end where theres a hole,no holes on long end,long end is 11" shorter is 7"....other object i believe is a chicken blinder...says "PAT PEND" on it
