Whats your take on the CZ3D...

For those that have used previous CZ models would like your opinions. I understand the concept of a CZ3D and feel some may not but let me know what you think....

hello!..dan!
i have owned a cz-70,and with the exception,(in my opinion),of the poor balance with the control box mounted on the stem, this detector was a "crackerjack"
coin sniffer!.sold it because i could NOT get used to hip mounting it all the time!
i am NOT sold on the concept of the 3d!..in my opinion, the cz-5 would be the better detector, because it WILL do everything the 3d will do,AND you will dig a lot less trash too!...the issue of EVERYWHERE you hunt these days is loaded with aluminum crap, that renders the "advanced" circuit useless, never is resolved, with the exception of old picnic grounds, and possibly old church grounds, and of course private homes...to be honest, the detector phsycologically "sets" you up for failure
when it sounds off as a high tone, which usually IS a coin on aconventional cz,however USUALLY in a high trash environment will be a trash object on the 3d!..it can be demoralizing when 2 out of three high tones are "crap!"..this detector for me,is difficult to justify spending $700.00 for!.again,i believe one is better served with either the great cz-70,OR the equally competent cz-5!

regards!

I have a CZ3D and I wouldn't part with it. I have been hunting a fairgrounds that has been in use since 1913 and it has been hunted by everyone in the county. I use my 3D in the enhanced mode all the time and I don't have trouble with can slaw or pull tabs. The only pull tabs I have a problem with is if the tongue is broke off the ring then it will read nickle high tone, but if 4" or deeper i dig it most always a nickle. I have found close to 100 silver coins in the last year and about 45 nickles, 10 buffs and 3 V nickles. Can slaw usually will read high tone but on meter will be zinc and shallow. Got zinc reading the other day at 6' and dug a nice Indian. I've tried a lot of detectors and they have all been sold, but the 3D isn't going anywhere. I was pleased with it first time out and after I learned the machines language it just keeps getting better. Just my 2 cents Jim

I am not a previous CZ user, but have been swinging my 3D for 2 years now. I have used a top of the line
detector 5 years before that. I still love that machine but if i am in an older area the CZ3D is my weapon of choice.
I can pull silver coins out next to iron better and better the more times I use it.Like the other poster said, it has
a language of its own and once you start picking up on it, Things will start to happen! Last month while hunting
a pic-nic grove in the enhanced mode I got a signal that started to sound like a pull tab it instantly jumped to a high tone
and guess what, a 14 KT. gold indian chief ring with multiple gem stones. What a beauty. This machine talks and you
must listen. I'll never depart with it. It is a nickel finding son of a gun too.I always come home with a keeper with it.
Another nice feature is that if you don't want to hunt in enhanced mode, flip to salt and bingo, you have a CZ5. I have
heard the cz5 is a great machine also. So with the 3D your getting 2 machines for the price of 1!!! Just my thoughts...
Yes you will dig trash, but with any machine you have to dig some of the junk to get the goods. My fisher finds coins and deep too... Just a great machine to have in the arsenal... Tom Dankowski has built a winner in my eyes.Long live the 3D!!!

The thing I like best about the 3D is that you can flip it to salt mode (a stupid name) and have a CZ5. I have a CZ70 also and use the 3D the most for the simple reason that if I run into a bunch of new trash where I didn't expect it, I'll just go to salt mode and be good to go.

hello!.dan!
you asked for opinions, and you got 'em!..maybe if i could borrow one,i might have a different opinion!..never having used one,my opinion is like screwing without a condom!..risky!...best of luck in the new year!

Dan, I used a CZ3D for about six month a couple of seasons ago.I thought the old coin high tone worked well even in the newer parks didn't have that much of a problem with trash.Compared with the CZ5 I thought the CZ3D had a little better depth, but not as much as the CZ7A. In my area I could run the sensitivity of the CZ3 at max without false targets.Compared with the CZs I have used the CZ7A,CZ5,CZ6A and CZ20 the CZ3D is one of my favorites.Sometimes you can find these units at bargain prices, but lately the prices on these used CZ3Ds are going higher.

I would never part with my CZ3D, that's for sure. I hunt in "enhanced mode" all the time, I find the machine extremely well balanced for the longer hunts and it's ability to find the deeper coins amazes me every hunt. I hunt mostly junky areas that others avoid and my 3D sniffed out 101 silver coins in 2007. Canadian clad hits mostly on "square pulltab" with a "tink" sound at the end of the pulltab tone.......every time. It's a nickel magnet and with practise you will dig very little rusty iron and nails, the high tones these targets produce tend to double hit or echo. It's a high end machine with a bit of a learning curve, but I'll never part with mine.

I own the CZ 3d, the CZ 5, the CZ 70 and the ID Edge.
I have owned and used other detectors.
The sites that I hunt, I use a small coil more than the 8" coil.
I hunt with 1 to 2 others that use a CZ, thats why the Edge for those lots that are not very big.
The house lots that I hunt, the house is torn down and bladed, their is a lot of rusty nails and trash.
It all comes down to how well you know your detector, like where does a V nickel read, where does a Indian head read, and war nickels.
I have seen 2 Barber dimes read in the Zink zone on 3 detectors,in the ground and out of the ground, a CZ 5,CZ 6a and a ID Classic.
If you are hunting for old coins, the 3d will help, but when I am using my CZ 5 or CZ 70, then I dig anything above iron.
The CZ's will go deep and give a good ID in our soil. Here the GB is like 4.5 to 5.5.
With the 5" coil on my 3d and sens at 3.5, I can hit a 9" coin..
The Edge and 6" coil needs sens at 9 to see the same coin..

I some times hunt with 2 others, one uses a old A.H. pro backpacker and a old 1260x and his son uses a 1265x, no meters, and they dig a lot of targets and they have a lot of good coins, and I mean a lot. The more holes that you dig, the better chance you have of finding something good. They just laugh at meters..

Back to the CZ 3d, I have heard that at the last, Fisher sold a lot of 3D's that were not set right, so a tune up makes a difference, it did for me and a friend.

PS.
the 1907 Barber half
was found with the
old backpacker,
made in the mid 70's..
