What's your opinion of the Classic IDX (SL)

A friend of mine has been running a Prism II and just hasn't been keeping up with us who have been running mid to upper end machines. The small coil on his machine is probably the most limiting factor and it is tough to watch him work his tail off and only find the easiest of stuff. Well...ran across a Classic IDX w/the stock 950 coil for $125.00 and decided to snap it up. Looks to be hardly used and was wondering what kind of experiences people have had with them? I had a Classic (for a couple days) before selling it to a co-worker and really had no time with it to develop any knowledge about the Classic's actual performance in regards to depth and speed. I have heard that the IDX Pro is great around here. Can Bill's mods be done for this one too?

Was that the one on the Seattle Craigslist by any chance? If so I came very close to buying it myself at that price but I already own 3 IDX Pros with Mr. Bills mods. and buying another might seem a bit crazy. Yes it can be modified by Mr. Bill and I highly recommend it. You may end up getting one yourself after seeing how well the modded IDX works.

Iam going to send my old idx to Mr bill for mods Monday.Wouldn't get much selling it so i figure i would beef it up and let other people use it as a loaner. My question is do you see that much difference and what coil do you use most on it?Monte says 5.3 bulls eye, which coils seems to work best for you?My coils for my other detectors will not work on it.Thanks for info

Yes it was! What kind of performance do you get with the mods? Would a Bigfoot work? This guy is so totally into the "Bang for the Buck" mindset... he'll be in freaking nirvana! Can't wait to give it to him! (Cheap *&^%$#@)
I do have a lead on two additional IDX Pro's, one Classic III, and one Classic ID. (All are being sold as "used" but have seen no or little use.) Person is figuring out what they need for them and will post on our classified board here...soon.

Monte is right. The 5.3 Bullseye is my favorite coil also for most of my hunting. I haven't even hunted with the stock 9 1/2 coil yet. In my bad ground with the detector set up right I don't loose much depth with the small coil and that little coil is hot on deep dimes. I mainly hunt old mill town sites and logging camps which are all located on saltwater beaches in Puget Sound. I can be hunting dry wooded ground one minute then dry beach-sand the next and then wet saltwater beach all on the same hunt so being able to adjust my ground balance on the fly is a must. Monte got me hooked on the modded IDX Pro and I'm glad he did because it's fast becoming my favorite detector for most of my hunting.

Went and picked up the Classic IDX and it is still brand new! Looking forward to having the mods done and checking it out. (Probably going to be pretty bummed to give it up at that point!) Nah! Thanks for chiming in you guy's and thanks for all the valuable info. Now off I go to get in touch with Mr. Bill.
