What's Your Favorite Excalibur Modifications...

I could write a book on this one...I will let others chime in before I do...

For me it is the remote pinpoint and the pel tor headphones; both are simple pleasures that markedly increase the fun of detecting.

Has to be the PPer. It allows you to almost hunt like a PI.... with the advantage of flipping to disc to check a target. Speeds up hunting, increases the amount of sand you can cover in a hunt, allows for better sizing of the target, and there is no recovery time over targets when in PP. In PP a good pair of upgraded phones really increase what you hear without blowing your ears off like in disc. Joes use of the CTX connector makes it simple to swap those phones or just by another pair that fits the CTX. Also...... those 1600 Mah Maxxpac batteries are a top notch upgrade with long life and fast charge.... oh, and they have a dang light on the charger. Shafts...... CF has increased our ability to better balance the machine and reduce the weight.

I like Joes idea of coil swapping as well thats he testing. The CTX connectors seem to work, but id like to have a coupler where i can use the coil on both a Sov and the Xcal instead or one or the other. I take my hat off to you Joe...... you have really brought out the Xcals potential. Im hoping for a STANDARD waterproof connector that all the companies will use in the future for headphones. Id like to get away from hardwire phones and coils. I think thats the only way we are going to get improved headphones and coils. With the Sov gone its just not profitable any longer to research and inprove its coils.

LOL ... Dew has it covered!!! And with the demise of the Sovereign, I wonder how long it is going to be before a brand new WOT is no longer available to add to the arsenal. My first improvement was the larger capacity NiMH batteries and a peak detect charger. Don't think I could live without the peak detect charger and had to rely on the Minelab trickle charger.
Cheers,
tvr

Those who can't live without the PP handle just remember and give thanks to the fathers of it, first with the Sovereign XS,, BBSailor and then the Excalibur, Mel Parker.

Mine would be Excalibur is only as good as you hear, OldBeechnut custom headphones.Next my Homemade Carbon fiber Upper and extended size lower rod.Don Coco Tyler Merrimack,NH

So far I have only made a couple of changes. First thing I did was get rid of that Snake shaft that Minelab puts on the machine. I went with a longer shaft that put the control pod under my elbow. Gave it much greater balance and Made it much easier to swing the detector for hours.

I did not like the fit (uncomfortable) of the Headphones and they did not cut outside noise. Joe Beachnut recommended a set of gel ear pads that replaced the cheap junk on the headphones. They greatly increased the fit and comfort and also helped cut the outside noise.

Can you guys elaborate on the Pinpoint switches that you use? A friend has a modification with a trigger device on the pistol grip with a wire extending to a modification on the actual switch. Love to see your ideas.

PP lets me hunt the wet/dry sand with full sensitivity, flip to disc to check and keep on going, get more depth this way. HH
