What's your favorite coil

8x6 SEF is a great coil anywhere, works really well seperating targets :detecting:but I love the 12 inch coil by whites when hunting in open fields.

General hunting: The stock 950 coil, trashy sites the 5.3 eclipse, open field little trash the 12" super coil. If I had to choose one coil, I would go with the 950.

10x12 SEF coil

My all time favorite is the 10" DD coil.

I love the 6x10 usually but lately have been concentrating on slowing down, especially in trashy areas. I am having a lot of luck with the shooter coil (3x5?). The big 12" coil that came with my pro is pretty heavy and hurts my injured arm but sure goes deep! I guess it depends on the site I am searching but I seem to have the best luck with DD coils.

Eclipse 5.3 (6.5" concentric . . .Yeah, I wonder why it wasn't named the Eclipse 6.5 also.) I feel it provides the most pro's vs the fewest con's, most importantly it has what I call the "big 3". (1) "Access" - the physical size allows you to actually get your coil over a significantly larger percentage of ground (harder access, less-hunted ground at that) and since the mantra is "you gotta get your coil over it . . ." this is the most important aspect IMHO. (2) "Separation" - much more important in most areas than pure depth which, at 6-7" the 5.3 is no slouch at. (3) "Weight" - pretty obvious that lighter means longer, more comfortable hunts but the most significant thing about a lighter coil is it makes it easier to have good, consistent coil control (swing speed, coil orientation, etc.) which is very critical. This all adds up to a lot more good finds and fun hunts for me so the factors really have to force my hand to get me to change from my go-to 5.3 to another coil.

[size=large]i believe the 5.3 vs 6.5 measurement confusion is caused by the design of the coil. the total outside top measurement is 6.5 but the beveled lower measurement ( where the coil actually is ) is 5.3 .jmho just as with all other coils the 5.3 has it's place and does very well in it.
