What's wrong with my detector.

jabbo

New member
Was working fine. But I was playing with the 5 internal pots for several days. Now it only detects a piece of aluminum plate about the size of a coffee can lid no farther than 1 inch away in Disc mode only, won't detect it in All Metal mode. Won't detect anything smaller. It lost 99% of its sensitivity. Any help is appreciated.

Jabbo,

1. Why did you adjust the internal pots?

2. What detector do you have?

3. Do you have the service manual for that detector telling you what each control does and how to adjust it?

4. Is the manufacturer still in business? If yes, send it in and pay to have it adjusted correctly.

Nomally, all internal controls are set or peak performance and any adjustments made will only reduce the sensitivity or worse, render the detector worthless. So, in simple terms, don't mess with internal controls. If you do adjust controls, then expect the result you got

Reg, When I bought the Garrett it wasn't working, completely dead. First I messed with the pots, that didn't help. But later I replaced the ON touch pad with a small spring loaded toggle switch and that got it working. Had to mess with the pots again but had to use a metal screwdriver for one pot, possibly it touched the positive batt terminal and that pot at the same time? Now it detects only very large metal. I have no service manual. Will try to get some one to repair it.

I have a master hunter cx111, it works fine.
if you have a CX111, it shud work in non-mothion all metal.at one time i ruined 2 caps
they are hard to replace. Its a good dertector,i mostly use non-mothion all metal good dept
best ID i ever used its in writeing no numbers, you can reject a target in all modes.
it has auto-talk
you might have to send it to garrett or find a nother CC111 and try to copy pots
good luck

It's a CXII. I called Keith Wills at E. Texas Metal Detectors and gave him the details. He said he could fix it, said it might be the power supply. Shipped it to him today. He knows his stuff.

Mine is a CX111. Does the CX11 talk and have non-motion all metal mode.
the CX is good for prospecting and gold.mine will detect a small nuget about size
of a BB 3'' a nickel 11-1/2'' in non-motion all metal thats good for a VLF with 8 -1/2 coil.
air test.
I have to many detectors,I plan to post it.
Good luck with your CX.

Frank, The CXII does not talk. I think All Metal mode is non-motion. I sent it to Keith Wills for repair 3 weeks ago, he didn't get to it yet. Still waiting for him to tell me what the problem is.
Does your CXIII have Power Boost, CXII does not.

My CX111 has 2 all metal mode, a motion and a non-motion.I leave it in non-motion
has better dept and easer on pin point.at libary now dont rember if has boost,I set Sen;
at max depending where i use detector.it does talk and ID is in writeing no numbers.
