WHATS WRONG... Bump & beep

I have a Garrett Ultra GTA 1000 that I got used. It has the oval 6X9(?) head. I'm relatively new to this, so is it normal for my detector to beep every time it gets bumped even the slightest in the sand or on the soil?
Ive tried everything, and it doesnt stop. Underwater in the surf is impossible, but in creeks is possible to search if its gentler. The top connection seems OK.

Do you have the first wind of the cable over the top of the shaft and wouind snug? Try taping it straight up the shaft for about a foot. If the cable moves your coil picks it up.
