Without going into too much detail, I came across this at my usual local spot, The only thing within around 1 mile radius is a tower which was finished in 1848, there is a bit of history to this place in terms of pre WW1 army training but I believe it to be a door knob/plough collar/bed post knob. There is a firm but soft ball saped item inside which jiggles around, what do you think?

I should add, it was around 3-5 inches below the surface of a stone trail, It took A LOT of shovel work to break apart the stone and get to this item, It was found on a slope in a forest.
