What's the weirdest thing you ever found?

A couple of things that come to mind are a gold bracelet I found that had my wife's name on it. One time I found a broken jar of pennies that somebody had buried in the sand. I think it totaled about six dollars worth. I've heard of people finding buried guns at the beach but I never have. I'd be interested in hearing stories of weird (not necessarily valuable) things that people have found.

One memorable find comes to mind.

A sports wallet found in 6' of water containing about 8 bucks in coins.... and a condom.... unused thankfully!

Cremation tags or what we call Death tags. We find lots of them here in south west FL. No big deal.I found a catamaran completly cover up in the sand. It was after a storm.

Over 28 years , I have found three sets of dentures. I doubt the owners left the beach smiling. I also found two sets of gold overlays ; one set had a CZ in each eye tooth and a ruby stone in center. Both overlays checked out at only 10K.

One was a baby food jar with a photo of a guy inside, stuck full of pins. I gave it to the local police. The other was wrapped in twine, like a ball. In the center was some kind of writing on a scrap of paper, mostly illegible, with pins stuck through the whole thing. YUK

I dug up a flannel green doll that was home made. It had a note in it(illedgible) and four kennedy half dollars and to casino tokens from Reno.

[size=medium]I've had a lot of people take guesses as to what they may be, but I still don't have a 100% positive answer. By positive I mean the name on the company that manufactures them and exactly what they are or what they are used for.

They were each found separately on the same beach only about 100 yards or so apart. I've tried following up on some of the guesses but everything was a dead end. I've searched the web trying to find others like these with no luck.

I know other people detecting beaches have found these same items from Maine to the Gulf coast and no one knows for sure what they are. I'm sure most of the others have wound up in the 'junk finds' pile still waiting for a resolution.

I guess for now the mystery will continue and they will just have to be 'unknowns'.

we called the state police and took him over to see the bone...as he walked over to where we had the bone he went on and on about how seal bones ect looked like a small child...and we most likely found some thing like that.....then he saw the "BONE"!!! His first words were "OH SH@!" He then said you guys got to show me the spot where it was found!! so we did..he said a part of a skull and jaw were found near by a few weeks earlier...they belonged to a missing fisherman....guess he got caught in the current while striper fishing.

One of the funniest things I ever saw, as it relates to metal detecting, was when I invited a couple of guys from work to come metal detecting with me. I loaned them my Fisher 1265 and a sand scoop. One was going to detect while the other was going to dig. I suggested they start out in the dry sand to get used to the detector and because the digging was easy. I was hunting the wet when I happened to glance up and see one of them digging furiously right next to a metal garbage can. They couldn't seem to locate the target so they thought the target might be under the garbage can. One guy pulled the garbage can away a little and sure enough they started digging right were the garbage can used to be and once again right next to the relocated garbage can. This went on for about three or four times when I couldn't contain myself anymore. I walked up to them and asked them what they had found. They told me they couldn't find the target but they had been getting a very loud signal right in "this general area." When I told them they had found a big beautiful garbage can, we all got a big laugh out of it.

$7,000.00 diamomd ring in a septic tank. It was really a recovery though and not a "find".

I just found one of those on the beach in NJ. Junk normally doesn't excite me,

I found in a local lake a very decomposed wallet with a 1964 drivers license and a Trojan rubber in it. I had fun mailing that one back!! Mike
