hello there tesoro users, what does everyone use here for head phones, i've noticed alot of tesoro owners using killer bee's (wasps) or black widows, i was thinking the grey ghosts were the best but maybe not? taking a quick poll on who favors what and why thanks!
all I have owned has been the Sunray Pro Golds. They sound great and really block out external noise, but I didn't care for the thin leather earcup pads. Mine developed small holes in them after only very few hours use and of course the warranty doesn't cover them. Vinyl would be more durable.
I have used the Koss UR-30's, Killer Bee's and TreasureWise. The Killer Bee's were far superios. Have you heard of Liberty headphones yet? Its a new company out of Ohio. I have heard they are awesome.
That's what I started with. My Gray Ghosts give a cleaner, crisper, sharper, somewhat higher pitched sound as well as sealing out the outside noise better. I can't say for certain that I hear signals I would have missed with the other phones, but I definitely like the GGs better. However, to be fair, the Calrads were much better than using the extenal speaker IMHO.

hey there Bill i have to be honest with you i just started using phones this year because the outside audio on my rg 1000 was on the quiet side of things so i just started using them this year i never could get use to them before
Any headphones with volume controls and the proper frequency range with work good. But if you insist on a pair with limiters any of the top of the line brands with work, but most are as overpriced as the detectors their plugged into. There are many mid range priced headphones that sound just a good as the highest priced ones. Frequency range, good foam ear cups and volume controls is all you need in my opinion. I assume that the more expensive headphones are more sensitive and it is easier to discern differences. I have nothing but cheap phones so far. All work fairly well but with the 110 degree heat index we have been experiencing in south Texas, they really make you sweat.
Any suggestions on phones for really hot weather. I know they will be better in the fall.
the sunrays are great, but they block external noises too much, I'm kind of a solitaire detectorist so I prefer a pair of foldable music headphones that help me detect and being safe
It's the quality of the speakers that determines the clarity of the sound produced, regardless of ohm rating. For best results, match the ohm rating of the headphones to the ohm rating of the detector's audio output circuit. Any more than that is unnecessary as the audio circuit cannot drive the higher ohm rating to full advantage. Tesoros do not need 150 ohm speakers. A good, quality set of 32 ohm speakers ,like the Jolly Rogers, are more than adequate for use with a Tesoro. Having had a run in with a bear on one occaision while detecting and moose on two other, I now prefer headphones that allow me to hear what's going on around me. Keep two legged predators in mind also.
