What's the point ?

Go through this thread and take a look. Why are guys paying six times what I payed for my Tejon, just to dig every signal ? I can likely get near everything they do if I was willing to dig every signal. I thought that the point behind the ultra expensive whiz-bang machines was to be more discerning in what you choose to dig ?

I agree if you are going to dig everything seems like a Compadre is all you would ever need. But looking at the flagship CTX-3030 I believe you can customise the discrimination for your specific area.

Yup, what amazes me is that some seem to be tossing their hands up and just digging it all anyway.

Good point. I've got beep and dig (Tesoros) and a couple mid-line TID machines. While I do like the TID machines when coin shooting on nice lawns for coins to 6" or so for that extra bit of confidence, I've found I can come very close to the same result by thumbing the disc knob and listening closely. Just takes a tad longer.

I am a very happy Tesoro owner, but I just picked up an XP Deus. There are plenty of others that have an upper echelon machine, but still heap praise and love upon their mighty Tesoros. There is something very nice about being able to adjust one or two dials and then having nothing else to worry about, you know?

Good point, Elton. And LOCATION. I would be days at some locations WITHOUT some form of notch. Just to show the variations: I use a Tracker IV at some locations because it gives scratches, clicks, etc. on small trash and good signals on coin sized objects. My Compadre would hit on every little piece of foil, etc. I use my Ace because I can go to a/m or Relics (just at iron nail reject) and have tone ID and STILL have a notch factor at the push of a button. Also, the sensitivity can be lowered further than any detector I have for places where large metal objects stifle other detectors. But my Compadre-oh my Compadre~it can find gold like no other machine. But if I had locations where depth was a factor, I would probably get one of those deeper detectors. IF I had only one choice, it would be the Compadre, but thankfully my 10 year accumulation gives me variety and saves time and wear on the old body.

Sometimes ya feel like a nut; sometimes ya don't. I only own the Tesoro Outlaw now. There are days and/or areas I may go "all metal" . Sometimes I get very lazy & crank the discrimination up. I probably leave good stuff behind but the way I figure it, I've got 12,999 square miles to go here in Nevada. I'm 65, so I have to hurry!!!:detecting:

I believe that you missed the point Elton. I was bringing attention to the fact that some of the expensive high end machines are bringing no more real world benefit to some of these guys, than that which they would recieve with a MUCH less expensive Tesoro.

Your Tejon can find near everything that a CTX can find.........Really?

Hey, I use to think I could do without a computer-they were nothing more than a waste of people's time. So my best friend came in about 10 times :surrender:and showed me how to get on the internet and now I wonder how I ever got along without one. Man, I would love to have a V3i, or something I could adjust and actually watch on the screen the composition of some targets, and tweak and see just how I could max out a detector.

Wellll-----I guess I need to have my (smart) ass led to water so I can get me a drink!!:heh:----I like 'em all, just some better than others! ;)----I think the whole "point" is---just get out there & use the one(s) that YOU enjoy using the most AND feel are the most effective/productive for YOU (as an individual).

You know what they say ... You can lead an ass to water, but ya cant make em drink. :D

IF you're going to dig everything than I don't see much reason to buy other than something simple. I would argue the fact that they(beep-N-dig) go just as deep as the high end machines. Fact is features often equal great depth, sensitivity, and more keepers.

Because for some situation some tid detector are better then Tesoros and not because just screen. For example Minelab FBS.

Also, on the subject of screens, graphs, composition etc., I deal with high tech stuff all day long at work. When I get time to detect I just want to relax and have fun.

Now that's the BEST point made yet in this whole post/thread Dan!----That's what this great hobby is "supposed" to be all about----relaxing & having fun out there---with whatever detector(s) it takes to accomplish this (and fit an individuals personality/needs).

Ha! That's a good one. I work at Walmart and I try to avoid having to go back to the store on my days off for that very reason!~:clapping:
That, and I just can't talk myself into spending $1000 to find a handful of coins when I've already paid for my other detectors with the ones I've got. But now if the dang lottery will just spit out the right numbers......
