What's The Difference

G,Day All, Pretty new to this hobby and was wondering what the Difference in performance between the E Trac & the X Terra 705 ( I have The X Terra 705) ?. Cheers:ausflag:

Goes4Ever would be a good one to address this question as he has many hours on the 705. I only had the 305 up until the E-Trac. There is a big difference. Mainly very, very many more ways to "set-up" the machine and use it to your different hunting scenerio. Depth is better. Much more information given to you as to the target identification. The Double D coil is a top notch coil too! My understanding is, though, if your looking at the possibility of "prospecting" for gold...it does have its limitations there as it is a better coin and relic machine and I believe it does well on the beach also.

I go detecting with a mate who has a X terra 705 and I have an E-trac.

He is very good with his xterra and dosn't miss much, overall a very good machine. The main differences I have seen is the X-terra is not as good in heavy trash or iron patches, probably a recovery rate/processor limitation. Also he doesn't get the same depth, we were detecting an oval and checking each other's targets before digging, some deep targets came through clear on the etrac he didn't pick up at all.

From what I've seen if you are going for recently lost modern coins both will do the job, etrac slightly better in high trash. If you want to go for the old deepies, or relic hunts in lots of iron, I'd strongly suggest saving the extra money and get an etrac.

Be good to hear from Goes4ever as he has used both.

Where in Aussie are you? I'm Adelaide

I had the xterra 70, and I think it is fairly close to the 705, minus a few changes they made. I think the xterra 70 is a great machine, I never had any real complaints with it. I hunted in program 1 and used multi tone 90% of the time. I got pretty good with mine and last year I found 500+ wheats, 110 silver and 57 indians, but I have took my etrac back to many sites that I thought I cleaned out with the xterra and I am still able to pull stuff with the etrac. The etrac's processor is way quicker and I think that is the main reason I am able to still find stuff at those sites previously hunted with my xterra.

I think way more coins are not found because they are masked with trash/iron. NOT because they are too deep. This is where the etrac is better in my opinion, it can separate out targets faster than the x-70 or 705 can.

Another thing on the xterra I got fooled a LOT more on deep iron that I do with the etrac. With the etrac you have more info such as ferrous and conductive number, you have quickmask, and you can watch how the cursor moves on the screen as you sweep coil over the target, just a lot more info that helps you keep from digging so much deep iron.

I would not trade my etrac now for any other machine, I absolutely love it.

Thanks For the reply, it is good to hear from the more experienced hunters that have used both machines. I'm still getting used to my X TERRA 705 & since i have put on the double D coil things have got better. Found it hard to get the TID to stabilise with the stock coil. The ground i hunt in was once a big volcano millions of years ago. I have hunted with a friend & he uses a Garrett 2500 i think with a concentric coil. Thanks for your time by the way I'm in central Queens land.
