Whats the difference between a Goldscan 5 and a 5B?

Hello Frank,
Down in Australia, we went through a lengthy field testing process on the Goldscan 5 and found that our local conditions required the GS5 to be slighty modded,
A ten turn GB pot was added to help in our horrendous mineralised ground, also a switch was added to the audio circuit to reverse signals, as in our bad ground, a big, deep nugget can and does sound like ground noise, none of these mods were required in USA as it would only make GS5 more complicated for no advantage.
These mods were required in Australia, as some of the best goldbearing ground is so mineralised, that you can actually weld the rocks together, such is the iron content

Sorry I was so short, but I was trying to stop the flood gates from opening as too why not mine, and still answer your question.

The tone reversal change may stay as standard on all the newer GS5's, along with the tone control ??? It's still up in the air a bit with this.

All the N American units will have a 1 turn GB control. If there is a need I will install a 10 turn GB control. This is on a case by case bases, and will be at a optional charge. I know of no ground in N.America that would require it. The resolution is good with the 1 turn pot.

Just to add to this - it is easier to know where you are, as regards settings, on a one turn pot. That is, if you are using this control also for target ID. It appears that in the US, even on "strong" ground, a one turn pot is not critical in its adjustment, for setting the ground balance. It can then double up as an ID control.

Eric.

Thanks Eric amd Mr. Bill for the more details explanation.

Mr. Bill, I know of a place I used to live in Oregon that may be the worst ground anywhere :) Well it was as bad as it could read on a Whites DFX. I was a dealer for Minelab, Whites, Troy's and tesoro when i lived there and tested all in that bad ground with some targets I buried using a hole hog and they were there for 8 years. I sent a sample of the ground to tesoro it was so bad they wanted to test it. So What i am saying is that there are a few places in the US that could use all the hepl they can get. that bad groind was full of volcanic rocks. red and black (positive and negative hot rocks). The sol was like hot rocks ground up. :)

You will be fine with the standard GS5. It will do as expected.

I have a GS 5 out there now, and your correct the ground is far stronger that anything I encounted in the West. There still is no problem ground balancing with the unit there.

Tesoro has never seen a unit like the GS5, so I sure they had a tough time with your soil. :)

You can phone me, or I could phone you if you would like to speak with me about the GS5 there.

Mr. Bill
