Whats the difference between a bigfoot.....

Well, of course there is the size difference 3"x9" veres 4"x18". The other difference is how the coil is wound. The HotFoot is a DD coil while the BigFoot is wound differently than a DD or a concentric. I don't remember what they called the winding or configuration but I think it was something like a large figure eight (:geek:. The HotFoot and the BigFoot will work the same on your MXT except the BigFoot back half will null (quit working) when you pull the pinpoint trigger. The HotFoot will still detect a trager its full lenght with the trigger pulled. the BigFoot will get 1"- 2" more depth than the HotFoot. Both coils are super light weight for their size. The HotFoot is super when looking for recent drops in high trash areas and is a killer in competition hunts due to its light weight and super fast pinpointing. The BigFoot can't be beat when covering large playing fields or the dry sand areas of the beach. I like to pinpoint off the end by pulling the pinpoint trigger and then pulling the coil back towards you until the tone stops, then the target will be right in front of the coil, about a 1/2 dollar size for the HotFoot and 1 silver dollar sized area in front of the BigFoot. Some folks like to pinpoint at the center of the BigFoot by pulling the trigger and pushing the coil forward until they lose the signel, then its directly under the center of the coil. Hope this helps.

Albert,
The HotFoot wasn't the big seller that the BigFoot was. There are a number of small coils for trashy sites like the 4"X6" Shooter and the 5.3 Eclipse and both of these coils go deeper than the HotFoot so not many folks weren't interested in the HotFoot even though the HotFoot gets even better target separation left to right than the 4"x6" and pinpoints better but 4" is about max for depth. The BigFoot on the other hand is highly sought after as there is nothing as big and light and it pinpoints extremely well. 6" depth is about the max unless its being used on the DFX, VX3, or V3i on the dry sand. The multi frequency machines punch a little deeper with a BigFoot at the beach.
PS. The predecessor to the HotFoot was the GoldFoot. It was made for the White's 6.59 kHz detectors. I found my first gold nugget near Randsburg, CA using a GoldFoot coil on a White's Eagle II SL 90.5 about 1991.

I love my BigFoot and won't ever part with it. You can pinpoint exactly on a dime. I'm not kidding either. One probe in the dirt and BINGO, you've got your coin, etc. HH, Nancy

Well, I guess I'll be selling the hotfoot and saving to buy the Bigfoot. They sure are expensive though. Thanks fellow treasure hunters for the info. Al
