What's the deal with modern pull tabs on the F75 LTD

I took my LTD out for its maiden voyage this afternoon, and interestingly modern pull tabs are registering in the dime'ish segment. I believe only the modern square tabs, but I need to do more testing to confirm whether other pull tabs were too (seems I did pick up an old school tab that exhibited similar behavior on the LTD). This was using bP mode with the disc set at 7, sensitivity between 60-75 and the stock 11" DD coil. Seems very strange IMHO (I never saw this odd behavior on my F70).

Anyone else noticing this peculiar behavior ?

Brian

I haven't learned of any problems along those lines, but nothing in metal detecting is the same for all. Metal reacts strange in different ground conditions & mineralization. It could be that combination on metal & ground conditions in your area causes those problems with that type of tab.

The bP mode is just that, a mode to use if one can take advantage of it. It's not cast in stone that it's the mode to use for all hunting environments. If you can use it great, but I think you will find in lots of cases you will not be able to. In the standard DE mode you should be locating targets in the 10" to 12" range.

Have a nice day

Also you can hold the red button down and double check foil - screw-cap (gold region )in DE default which if set right will give a truer ID...
Bp is locking on fringe targets and letting you know there is something there...

just some suggestions for you to try.....Mr. Bill is correct that targets can & do react different location to location....that why it is always good to dig a few trash targets nonferrous at any new site or site with a new detector...Hope this helps ..May all your finds be Golden!

ps did you try 3 tone and where the pull-tabs coming up high tone? the meter and sound are separate derivatives

Happy trails

Perhaps it was a fluke, I just found it odd. I dug a square tab at 9" deep, kudos on the depth, but what a disappointment to pull out a tab, I thought for sure it was going to be a silver dime

jimpugh I was using the 3H tone and they were hitting high tone. At first I suspected they were hitting in the nickel segment, which with 3H tones they'd hit a high tone as expected, but the TID was showing around dime at right around 70-72, so that kind of blew my theory out. The only other thing I could think of is being that the audio and TID are independently processed, perhaps it was doing what it was supposed to on the audio, but for some odd reason the TID wasn't being interpreted correctly. I'll try the 4 tone option tonight, that might do better with tabs. Aside from this snafu, so far I do like the LTD a lot.

I really like that the LTD is similar enough to my F70 that I could hit the ground running knowing the basics, but it's different enough that there's lots to learn and expand on, BUT I think this is going to be one deep seeker! For a while I was using the 5" DD in an ultra trashy area, and I couldn't believe how deep some of the targets were it was hitting with this tiny coil

I was just curious if this tab issue was normal for boost mode so I'd know what to expect. I'll be taking it out again this evening for a little :ninja: hunting at a different location, there's old coins there, but their all over 10" deep, so we'll see how she does.

Thanks and hh,
Brian

Hi Brian

Something that just came to mind. If your having problems with a particular tab or target, try switching over to a non DD coil like the F70 concentric one. They are a few negatives about DD coils, and you may find in your place the concentric coil may do the thing. Of course that is if you have a F70 coil.

Good idea Bill. I have the 10" concentric from my F70 and the little 6.5" concentric too, so I have all four F70/75 coils to use. I'll take the F70 coil along tonight just in case.

Mike that thought occurred to me as well, as I've seen similar scenarios in the past so I rescanned the hole, but no such luck.

Hopefully I'll be posting some nice finds from tonight

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the little round one is a DD coil also ???

The little 5" round coil is a DD, but the little 6.5" football shaped coil is an elliptical concentric.

I do believe your correct.

In either case you should notice a difference with a little better discrimination with a concentric over a DD coil. Usually the complaint is bottle caps. DD coils have a way of enhancing them so well. Salt beach's have a way raising he** with a lot of falseing using a DD also. Of course if it's a nasty West Coast beach, one may have to stick with the DD.:help:

in trash most any machine is going to have problems on my LTD pull tabs come in under nickel gold so I dig a few and sometimes I get lucky...

I have seen similar response on small aluminum. It has been hitting much higher than I would have expected. Not sure if it is our funky soil or what, but I dug several tabs and bent beaver tails that traditionally hit like a nickel that were in the zinc or higher range. Kinda threw me for a loop in the parks. Seems to have good depth as I hit some deep stuff, but the VDI was a bit jumpy.

I have found that the LTD is very sensitive to small target though!! I gave it a whirl on my gold claim, did not find any gold, but it was banging on small lead. Odd, but it seemed like the 11" did better than the 5" on the small lead!! A little noisy but the good signals jump through real nice and solid.

Still learning this machine but I see it has a fit in the arsenal if i give it time. Been swinging the tank for too long so the brain is slow to change!!

Good lUck

Ron
