What's the deal with G.F. ?

I have some gold rings that are marked 10K g.f. and some sort of a halmark afterwords. They came out of the lake shining like the real thing. They are not plated and seem to be 10K. Little if any tarnish like 10K does. My question is ther any value in them? It seems the gold buyer's don't touch them. Should I smelt them myself? There is gold involved some how. Any body know what's the real deal? Thanx.... Metalmiester

Gold filled means that instead of electroplating the gold is actually bonded to the ring making it better quality. Most GF rings are 1/20 gold. Which means you have 1 part gold and 19 parts silver and other junk. On top of only being 1/20th gold you have the karat value so 1/20th of 14K gold isn't much!! LOL 14K gold is 14 parts 24K gold and 10 parts other, and now I confused myself!!!

I just called ARA gold to confirm cause I have a lot myself!! There isn't enough gold to justify taking the gold out which I am SURE they do when they refine them for silver. So if you send them in with your silver, you will get the silver value out of them but not the gold.

Yes they look GREAT when found but in reading the inside you get dissapointed VERY fast!!! Good luck on finding the real deal!!
