What's the best way to remove a coil cover- or ANY way!

Feel pretty stupid here but I have read MANY posts that say to remove the coil cover and clean the coil of debris to prevent falsing. HOW is this done...with a crowbar? I can't budge my coil cover from my cz70pro or my cz7. Seriously...I can't get either of them to move at all. What are some methods to try...other than a little common sense...which I apparantly don't have?

it fits so tight that nothing gets in. When it wears out I have to pry/break it off with a small bladed screwdriver which works well for me. Why would one need to clean it out if it fits right ? Steve in so az

and tap around the outer edge with a "light" hammer. I use a half of a spring type clothes pin. It may take a while, but it will come off. Kelley (Texas) :)

Hi Steve.
I'm not sure how stuff gets in...but it does. I have read many different of these detector forums..Minelab, Fisher, Whites, etc. They all have various posts about removing the coil cover and keeping the coil clean to prevent falsing. I'm a believer now. I just got my coil cover off and it took forever. It was tighter than a glove and you would be amazed at the amount of dirt and dust in there!
Take care

Thanks Kelley.
I finally got it off with a small screwdriver and half a clothespin as you suggested. I don't know if I can get it back on as it was nearly impossible the first time I put it on. I was amazed at the amount of dirt in there!
Happy hunting

You do not want to hit the wood too hard or you might damage the coil. It is difficult, but you can get the coil cover back on. Good luck and I wish you the best in finding some good treasure items. Kelley (Texas) :)

Bryce - I never find stuff inside mine. And I go through almost 2 per year. I run the coil flat on the ground always. Steve

HAHA Been there done that! Sometimes I wonder if they are worth it..Yes, Screwdriver and just do a little at a time all over..May try and do it in the bathtub with water. It will get in and move the grit around :)

with a CZ20 and my coil covers also fit so tightly that I can barely get them off (usually end up breaking them in the process). The inside has always been littered with sand and dirt.

Maybe alot has to do with what kinds of ground people are hunting in.
