What's the best small coil to get for trashy parks?

I see there are a few different small coils available for the e-trac: the 8x6 SEF, the 4.5 x 7" DD EXcelerator , the 6" DD EXcelerator EQ 2 Pro...

I know some of you E-trac users have used at least a couple of those models. Which one has worked best for you and why?

There is also the sunray x-5 and they did make a 5" excelerator coil too. I have only tried the 8x6 and the 6". I think Bryce has done a lot of reviews of coils on the Explorer forum. These same coils will work for the Etrac too.

I own and have used two coils, the Sun Ray X 5.5 and the SEF 6X8. Both are excellent coils, but my favorite in super tight trashy areas is the Sun Ray X 5.5. Target Separation and response is excellent but a little slow for covering much ground. I like using the SEF 6X8 in trashy areas where I need to cover more ground. Both will surprise you on their depth ability. You would be happy with either of these two coils. Rick IL

I've used both the 5.5" Sunray as well as the Excelerator 6" both work great & have excellent separation as well as excellent depth. You can't go wrong with either one. I find as much or more than a veteran hunter who hunts with me using a standard coil. Good luck!

I just ordered the 6" Excelerator from Bulgaria. I guess by the time I get it my skills on the E-TRAC will have improved somewhat too.

Smaller is always best but you do lose depth I have found. I had the6x8 sef and did not like it. Too big 8" where the stealth x5 covers a smaller seach area. Would be nice if one of the coil manufactures would make a 3" for trashy areas.

Great review of the sharpshooter coil here..

Thanks for posting the link Dave, looks like a good little coil

I own the 6" EQ2 and I am starting to think I will just leave it on for a while. A great coil with very good depth and at 6" the target separation is very good. A 6" deep coin is easy for this coil. I am very happy with it, just this evening I hunted my yard for a half hour after a ball game and found a 39' S Merc in an area that I hunted many times with the stock coil. Ther was a piece of tin right beside it but the sweet silver sound came thru real nice with the EQ2.

Funny this thread is up, since I was about to post a thread about my recent finds using the 6x8 SEF coil. It's been amazing so far! Yesterday I found a King George I Farthing (1717-1724), and then today I worked the same area (an area I've worked MANY times over), and I found 3 Barbers today! A 1904 Quarter, a 1908 D dime, and a 1916 S dime. Seems to be WAY better than the stock Pro. :)

I have always used the SEF 6x8 but due to problems with one again switched to Sunray 8" and have been really impressed. I also use a Sunray 5" and it is great when the trash is terrible but it is really small if you are just walking around so it is easy to miss a target. The Sunray 8 has great separation and good depth and I have pulled a bunch of deeper stuff I missed with the SEF

I just dont have the patience for a 5 inch coil, it is like having a hockey puck on a stick, tried one before and sold it, just not for me. The 6x8 has excellent separation, even on sites with torn down houses like fields....with 10-12 targets per swing....if you go at a moderate pace you will be pleasantly surprised at how well the 6x8 coil performs....and superior death....have dug many coins at 8 inches with mine.

6" Excelerator.

I have dug well over 100 indians/wheats/silver from a measured depth 9" with it on my E-Trac....and several hundred in the 7" to 9" range.

The 6 x 8 is an AWESOME coil ...and In moderate trash the 6 x 8 works best for me...but heavy trash...the 6" Excelerator rules for me...and the price/performance ratio is nearly unmatched.

Agree, completely with Bryce-IL

The 6 x 8 is an AWESOME coil but does not get the separation that the 6" does...AND the 6" has no problem hitting 9" deep coins for me here in my IL soil...and quite a few in MO soil as well.

I bought the 6x8 SEF after reading your review, and I have to say I'm very impressed so far. Couldn't believe I pulled 3 Barbers from a spot I've worked 30+ times over the last few months, and also finding the King George I farthing in the same area was unbelievable. I know it's early to conclude, but how can I not agree that this coil is superior up against the stock Pro? It's excellent on target IDs, and the tones are loud and clear. So far I have to say I love it. Thank you for inspiring me to get it. -Ron

I ordered one from Bulgaria after reading some of your other reviews and it is on its way to me here in Toronto. *taps foot impatiently*

6X8 in Northern Illinois, outstanding coil.9 inches on silver dime. Make sure you turn up sensitivity in manual to run it,have found iron nails almost touching coin, works great in iron.I hardly ever take it off.If I do it is to follow up with 10X12 SEF and in most cases doing that I may find one or 2 extra coins.I have found several hundred coins hunting in 3 feet or less water with 6X8 no problems yet and pinpointing is right on.

Beachdude....Make sure you run your sensitivity as hot as you can with the 6"...and it will go deeeep!
If you run it at the same sensitivity levels as the stock sized coils (26 manual or so)...it is just a normal little coil that separates well.
However if you run it hot...say 30 manual or more...it is probably the deepest seeking little coil I have ever used....PERIOD.
The 6x8 SEF is an AWESOME coil and goes super deep too...but I consider it a midsized coil and use it in moderate to heavy trash.
In dense trash...the 6" Excelerator is an absolute weapon.....ENJOY.

Ronfin...thanks much for the kind words....they are truly appreciated.
Nice finds you made with your 6 x 8 too.

Im with Bryce on this one bud. I do like the 8 x 6 if the trash isnt too heavy. If they made a 4 x 6 sef Id be all over it.
6" is every bit as deep as the 8 x 6 but cutz through trash better.
